Jenson Button has managed to earn sufficient points to secure his spot at the top of the driver's standings at Interlagos with one race to go at Abu Dhabi.

FIA Formula 1 World Champion : Jenson Button

FIA Formula 1 Constructors Champion : Ross Brawn and BrawnGP

Jenson Button finally secured the Drivers' Championship title in Sunday's Brazilian GP while Mark Webber claimed the victory in what can only be billed as the 'Race of the Year'.

Despite the much-anticipated rain that was forecast failing to materialise, Sunday's Interlagos race had more action, more overtaking and more exciting than the 15 races that came before it. Thank goodness.

Lap One alone saw three incidents, the second resulting in three retirements and one stewards investigation of Jarno Trulli and Adrian Sutil, and the third resulting in one Kimi Raikkonen on first, one Heikki Kovalainen being investigated and a few McLaren mechanics with bruises as the Finn had driven off with his fuel hose still attached, laying down fuel for Raikkonen's blistering hot Ferrari to drive through.

After that it was overtaking move after overtaking move from Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel as the two fought their way from their lowly grid slots into the points, Button keen to wrap up the title and Vettel desperate to stay in the Championship fight.

However, it was Button who had the measure of his rivals, edging his way closer and closer to the necessary points. He was also helped by Rubens Barrichello's Brazilian misfortunes striking yet again as he dropped down the order and was hit by a puncture on Lap 64. That pretty much sealed his and Button's fate.

And it was 'all hail the new World Champion!'

Meanwhile, in the race it was Webber who dominated after getting the leap on Barrichello, from there charging to a superb victory ahead of Robert Kubica and the highly impressive Lewis Hamilton, who recovered from his P16 grid slot.

Sebastian Vettel was fourth ahead of Button and Kimi Raikkonen.

Good thing to see a Team like Brawn who were almost not racing this year Win and a driver like Jenson Button, poor fellow was always in the mid field and back of the Grid patiently waiting for his chance and when it came he did make the most of it. But my heart goes out for Ruben poor guy always close but never quite there. Bottom line good season will have to see how the next year no refueling rule will make the game interesting, also cant w8 to see good old lotus back in F1.

Amazing race this one. Its was constantly tense with lots of action happening rite frm the first turn. Gotta feel bad for Sutil and Barrichello. Isnt it a clear case of Brawn bull$hitting abt a fake puncture call on Barrichello's car and callin him in for a pit stop just to ensure Button got the extra points to secure the driver's championship.

as usual action packed brazilian grand prix ,poor barichello it could very well be his last season.
BTW i don't think it was sutil fault, for collision with trulli.

Congrats to Button. He did an excellent job at the start of the season and a good job to stay in points later on when the car didn't suit his style of driving.

@amigoatul: I too felt that Rubens was cheated for a while but I don't think it would have affected the outcome of this season.

Let's face it ever since Kimi won the championship in the last race against all odds. Everybody thinks it is possible. Heck it nearly happened last year with Massa. Last year the competition between Massa and Lewis was real close the point difference was far smaller. That is not the case with Vettel or Rubens before this race took place. I think they were too optimistic.

I think Brawn realized this and did what it did. If they had not done this they would have gone to the last race with tremendous pressure on them. With Button and Rubens trying to get the better car or playing mindgames with each other or worse a total breakdown in the team.

Now they can tell Rubens that they suspected a puncture and called him in as a precaution and face Ruben's ire.

Apart from that the race was amazing.

Kimi made a mistake but made up for it later on. He could have been on the podium.

Lewis is a pure Jacka$$ as usual. He complained that the car was horrible before therace, after race says it requires a bit of improvement but wasn't as loud as he was before while complaining. Horrible driver in my opinion. It is just the car not Lewis. McLaren bring Kimi back also after 2007 you retained the wrong driver.

Kobayashi - great debut by this guy. The Japanese duel was great while it lasted.

Sutil should have slapped Trulli silly.

congo jenson :)

best race so far.....
its big moment for me as well ....i always been big supporter of jenson even in schumi days....this guy got the talent and he proved it :)

Yeah looking at Sutils incident i feel there is no way on earth the Toyota of Trulli could have gone past him:no:, Trulli was on the outside and i suppose one wheel on the runoff area hit the bump, not just messing his race but also Sutils and Alonsos. All Sutil could do was sit tight and crash.

kimi sure got fried. apparently the fuel drops went into his eyes too. he said that his eyes were burning, even after the race.

The TV cameras in the pits showed clearly that RB had a puncture, probably caused when LH clipped the Brawn's left rear with the wing of McLaren (also removing the endplate of the wing). You'll notice that RB was struggling to keep the car in a straight line when driving into the pits (look at the in-camera view). Even if RB had finished third, he would have had 77 to JB's 87, and he could not have won the championship even if he won in Abudhabi and JB didn't score.

Give the conspiracy theories a break, kids. Things never happen the same way twice...

That was an incredible scene, with the fuel iginiting upon contact with the red hot ferrari for a couple of secs. Lucky it didnt end up worse and the ice kool Kimi continued racing. This race was so thrilling it can put many hollywood thrillers to shame:bleh:

Well i think this race was good but not a Hollywood movie script. I still this last year Brazilian GP was the best Hollywood Script so far not to forget the Renault Crashgate incident Massa would have won the championship if the safety car would not have come out that day. But again its motorsport u never know whats gonna happen and how its gonna happen.
