CPU/Mobo Jetway 790GX IGP dead. What now ?

So adding to sangram experiences with Jetway :P My IGP has passed away :P From the morning I was getting very annoying flickering of colours and distorted screen, came back from college but to no avail. Nothing was visible at all. So I installed Sapphire 4770 and everything working perfectly.

I know I can use this Mb with a graphics card but why should I keep a faulty board ? :P So will RMA it.

1. Am pretty sure that IGP is dead? Could there be anyother reason ? :P :ashamed:

How long will rashi take to RMA it ? Will they provide a replacement for the mobo ? IINM Rashi handles the RMA for jetway or should I contact LYNX directly ?

What else needs to be taken into consideration before approaching for RMA ? Even though I have RMAed CPU/ipod, I am not quite sure about Mb stuff. So please help me out.

Regards

1. IGP is dead. No other possibility.

2. If you're lucky, two weeks to get your board back. With Rashi, it means your stars have to be in perfect alignment at the millisecond that you submit your board, and you need to have sacrificed seven virgin goats on seven preceding days. If you're unlucky, well... Never, like one of my boards. Maybe the goats I sacrificed weren't virgins. I would suggest talking to Amarbir,. Sellers generally have more clout in the Rashi system than individuals, because they provide larger blocks of business.

3. Just send the board back to Amarbir and ask him to handle it. If you do it yourself, you will tear your own hair out. Not from your head.

Good Luck :)

I think you should approach Rashi with the proof of purchase. Ensure you have not tampered with any stickers on the board. Approach them like some noob and say that the board display does not work. In all probability, you may get a better board with a better chipset possibly from Jetway itself - see if you pay something extra and get it from another manufacturer such as Asus. :P

Rashi's service seems to have improved off-lately going by the hearsay. Not sure how true this is since I haven't personally dealt with one since ages.

Jetway boards' build quality has always been pathetic - lousy heatsinks and the components seem to be of low-grade compared to boards from Gigabyte/Asus etc. Their motherboard lineup is pretty limited as well. The IGP could have gone kaput due to a lot of reasons - pci-e clock frequency being set to an unusually large value, the stock goop have dried up resulting in overheating etc.

How old was the board btw?

Almost ~1.8 years old.

@Gannu : I was thinking of replacing it just like you mentioned. I have not tampered any stickers on the board nor anything. The only thing missing is the backplate which I lost while selling my M9. I believe that won't be much of an isssue ?

I am not sure of that although you may ask Amarbir to help or maybe request a fellow member in the forums who is using an aftermarket heatsink to part with the backplate. You may return him once you get a replacement.

My abit board was RMA'd 'as is'. In fact the SB heatsink was missing the metallic plate which read 'abit' - that fell off somewhere and somehow I was able to claim an RMA through a friend who knew Tirupati and Mnemonic systems very well. Thank heaven, they obliged to the RMA - abit was shut down couple of years back. :ashamed:

^^Oops :ashamed: I miss typed I/O plate as the backplate :P :ashamed: I have the backplate, the thing that is missing is I/O cover. will contact both lynx and rashi tomorrow.

I read 790GX as something else! I think you would get the same board as the replacement since 790GX is not an outdated chipset given that the 8 series chipsets have just released sometime back. :P

The I/O plate wouldn't matter AFAIK - Tirupati had asked me to send the board minus all the accessories. It might be the same with your case as well.

Best of luck! :)

@cranky: lol at all those goats and stars! :P

I don't know about other cities, but Rashi service in my city has made me turn away completely from Asus as a brand. I have stayed away from recommending Asus, and the last 50-60 machines for friends have been Gigabyte and MSI.

I have used the RMA service three times.

1. Jetway 690G: Eventually had to replace the board after paying difference money for an Asus. this was Mumbai and Prime handled my RMA, so it went off smoother than expected. Which means they returned the board after 'repairing' three times before I started raising hell, so they eventually gave in.

2. Asus P5N32-E SLI. Never got the board back. Haven't heard from them - ever, and any attempts to retrieve the board have been met with 'We're looking for it'. For the last 12 months.

3. Asus M3N78EM: Faulty LAN port. Returned with the promise that it was working. Which it is not.

I'm not sure anyone in the industry has such a pathetic service record. The last two RMAs were done in Calcutta, which has the most lazy, arrogant and incompetent nincompoops running the Rashi motherboard division in the whole of humankind. These are the kind of things that make you want to shoot people in the head.

I'm not sure anything I do will help the cause. I've just decided to stay away from the brand from now on.

^^Ouch! That might have hurt :(

Anyway called both Rashi and Lynx. The guy on the rashi end looked good to me while Amarbir was quite rude and told me that he cannot help instead I have to take it to service center :|

You have an option of RMA'ing it just before your warranty period runs out. If you don't mind using the HD4770 for till then, fair chance that you would get a better board then.

^That's another option. LOL good one damn! :P

LOL I was quite expecting that.

My good fren and TE member 'virus32win' told me that Rashi's customer support is very good in North India, He always recommend Asus to me for this reason. I've never broken anything with Indian warranty yet, with the exception of WD HDDs xD.

^^4770 comes later in the picture. For 2 days in a row I got black screen and flickering all around. After that I installed 4770. So theres no point about BIOS settings.

Wonder what happened then :( Anyway have to sell this board sooner or later, will wait for Bulldozer/980X chipset to hit the market.

Makes sense to keep the board for now. Did you check the board at your end after this instance? Did you do a CMOS reset btw?

Yes, the first thing I did was BIOS reset. Actually I was getting an impression that it might be a conflict due to unlocking but then even with normal configuration it used to show up the weird screen.

No :ashamed:
