Jio - Silently increased price of Value Packs

To abide TRAI order to provide Voice Only plan to user who do not wish Data, Jio move smartly and increased price for those who are looking for some data at least for UPI Transitions.

I was on Jio Value Plan that cost Rs.479 + 6GB Data (for 84 days)
Now Jio reduce this Value plan price to Rs.448/- (for 84 days) and offer NO DATA.

Now to add lowest possible data pack for 84 days I need to pay Rs.175 x 3= 525/- for 84 days.
So my final cost for 84 days plan with data will be Rs.479 + 525 = Rs.1,004/- i.e. Rs.334.66/- for 28 days.
And If I don't want to spend Rs.334.66/- for 28 days than Jio have plan that cost Rs.189/- (+2GB Data) for 28 days.

Now, prior to NEW VOICE ONLY plan, I required to pay Rs.159.66/- (with 2GB Data + Talk Time) for 28 days, but..
after New Voice ONLY PLAN, I have to pay Rs.189/- (with 2GB Data + Talk Time) for 28 days

So in actual, after abiding TRAI's directive Jio, reduce the price (on paper) but indirectly increase price from Rs.159.66/- to Rs.189/- for 28 days, finally a increase of Rs.29/- per 28 days for common mobile user.

Time to move to BSNL if they offer good connectivity/Network.

You are right. TRAI is also involved in this. Last time when Jio had increased plan price, I had moved to BSNL for 1 month and regretted and switch back to jio. BSNL network is not good at all. You can't trust it while doing UPI payment.

Govt. keep spending millions on to upgrade BSNL service & Hardware (communication Gears for 4G etc. service) but still no improvement in service quality?

Yeah this happened about couple of weeks ago. I guess you missed it at the time. People complained initially. Then everything settles down as always and these companies know that well. I also use the affordable packs only. No other option but to submit to them as we are basically slaves. Trai? What's that?

BSNL too, what's that? I was with them for a year. Even if they pay me to use their services, I won't.

It is a case of malicious compliance simply because TRAI is too stupid to actually think any changes through. They only required the operators to offer a voice-only plan cheaper than the existing cheapest data plan.

Airtel has done it differently where they changed the 509 plan to 489 and reduced the validity from 84 to 77 days while adding the 469 plan after removing the data benefits.

TRAI had pulled up telcos , why there are no voice only plans which could cater to poor people who dont use smartphones .So telco cartels reduced 200 rs & data from 1 year cheapest value pack consisting some data and created this nonsense .if somoene is on twitter please tag supreme court and highlight this nonsense.

I don't even see it that discussed on YT either, I could only find one video about it:

(Yeah, the thumbnail is pretty weird, but the topic is about the recent change. I clicked on it initially hoping there was a new telco operator but ahh...)

BSNL does give some good value for money packs nowadays like the Rs. 2399 which gives me a 2GB/day internet for a validity of 395 days. But the catch for me is, their network coverage and internet speed is a hit or miss.

The best way to determine whether you can live with BSNL is to buy a new SIM and use it during your everyday locations. See if it works. If it's really horrible, then just drop the idea.
If it works, it can make for a really good data or secondary SIM. The voice only plan is cheap, the yearly data plans are also fairly priced.
For the times when you do a UPI payment, switch back to your primary SIM (Airtel/Jio probably). That's the only combination I'd pick for having 2 SIMs tbh. Having both Airtel and Jio is getting expensive.
