Lol! you spent so much jujst on a duster? I bought the exact duster for just 169 bucks in the recent sale. All are same except for the brand.
Hi @nRiTeCh This one has wax on the strands to pick up the dirt. Desi Auto Enthusiasts swear by it. I am yet to find a better product.

The best part it, it has a Legal Disclaimer
Though we don't know what it is. we are glad knowing there is one. /s

The one I ordered I was using since 3yrs or so and forgot it at my relatives place in another town so ordered back the same one. It doesn't got this wax thing but works like charm for my usage as my car is washed and cleaned daily. round the year. Only exception been those usual small dust storms or if I parked under a tree etc.

I am using jopasu car duster for more than a decade. Its good, my last purchase was 2 years ago. It picks up dry dust and slight rain drop+ wet dust (minor) perfectly.
Though can't be sure about recent product quality. Once washed and resprayed with wax, works wonder for atleast 30-40 times cleaning on dusty days and more on less dusty days.

Washing it is a chore, takes multiple soak and rinse cycles to clean, long time to dry, then a few hrs to spray wax on its strands multiple times after each spray dries off.

Why isn't a decent microfiber towel good enough for this job?

All wax on strands tells me is static electricity pickup is part of the cleaning if that is even true to begin with.
then a few hrs to spray wax on its strands multiple times after each spray dries off.
Can you link to the wax you spray on it?

Hard to reach middle of roof, using any type of cloth leads to slight pressure which may cause micro scratches on paint.

I bought duster + rejuvenator (wax) as combo in deal last time.

I guess it's more to do with it being more convenient, it's easier to grab the handle and dust the car and shake off the dust. Also the duster takes off all the dust in a single sweep.
More ergonomic I guess. Because as far as I can tell it is microfiber already.

Now to figure out what and how this wax business is helping

You guys are using an imitation

Is this the right thing to do?

HOW DO I CLEAN MY CALIFORNIA CAR DUSTER?

"The dirtier it gets, the better it works." That's been our catchphrase since 1989. You really do not want to try and clean or rinse the California Car Duster until it is a last resort.

For daily maintenance, simply shake out the car duster or clean it thoroughly with an air gun. The mop will discolor with continued use, but keep using the car duster as long as it is picking up the dust. When the car duster begins to push the dust you can try to rinse the mop with cool water and mild detergent in your garage sink and then let it air dry.

Only do this as a final straw as rinsing the mop does risk pulling some of the baked in wax out of the mop. If you own a plastic handle California Car Duster, do not remove the mop from the handle when cleaning it. The mop head is stitched around the handle, so it is very difficult to reinstall after it has been removed (trust us). You can rinse the mop out in your garage sink and let it air dry.

If cleaning the mop does not rejuvenate the California Car Duster, then it is time for a new one.

The wax is baked in and more durable on this California duster I guess than the spray on stuff you're using

Yes, when the duster gets absolutely dirty, it stops cleaning perfectly, then it becomes necessary to wash the brush, dry it, spray 6-10 times with rejuvenator to cover each strand.

That 55$ one will also get dirty sooner or later and will need to be cleaned + re- waxed. Also 55$ vs 9$., so that decision is up to buyer/user.

They are saying not to wash it as it removes the wax but to air clean it with a blower.

Wash and then wax is a last resort

This is how I'm using too, will get a new one when it stops picking up dust

Actually it's there in jopasu too, that's how it picks up dust efficiently. The built in wax should work for a long time

Your decent microfiber towel will scratch the car if used with water daily.
Not to be used with water. Dry wipe. But I cant speak about scratches. I thought the paint is quite hard wearing already as it's exposed to the elements. Maybe not hence the wax. Though didn't find a confirmation about this on that California duster site.
Duster is used on a dry and dusty car and removes the hassles of cleaning the car. I use the duster daily and it takes like 5 mins max.
The handle is helping here

Microfibers are best used for windshields and dashboards aka inside of the car.
For outside, there are different rating microfiber cloths available.

Only a parsi baba can tell as they maintain their cars more than their wives. Any parsi here with a vintage car who can offer better insights more than their health aspects!

Can this be sprayed and worked even with a normal duster?
