As reported before, Intel has had hinted a price drop in Q3, expecting a second price drop someday in August and September. However, the exact date turns out surprisingly on July 22 as the first hand information we have received.
In the most updated plan, Intel Quad-Core Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GHz/4MB L2 x2/1066MHzFSB) will be further cut to $266, a second drop within 4 months since its release on March with 68.7% accumulated price drop. For the original price segment of Core 2 Quad Q6600, now it will be replaced by a new model Quad Q6700 (2.66GHz/4MB L2 x2/1066MHzFSB), pricing at $530.

For the mainstream desktop processors, while Core 2 Duo E6000 family has no price update information at this moment, its relatives, Core 2 Duo 6050 family which features 1333MHz FSB releasing on July 22, has got a very impressive price advantage. The 3 models including E6550 (2.33GHz), E6750 (2.66GHz), and E6850 (3GHz) are only priced at $266, $183, and $163, around 40% cheaper than its 1066MHz version. Together with the new release of Bearlake featuring 1333MHz FSB, the both releases are expected to have great sales.

For the Value segment, Core 2 Duo E4500 will be a new release on July 22. Featuring 2.2GHz clock speed, 2MB L2 Cache and 800MHz FSB, its price is set at $133, while E4400 will further drop to $113.

wow, that is absolutely amazing news

LET THE PRICE WARS BEGIN

now only if good motherboard for Intel Platform were as cheap as AMD's

damn nice info..but i hope to see c2d price e6600 to be ard 5-6k (e600 family means the same??)

also a good mobo in that range...

nice ... dunno why intel are reducing the prices so often , since they hardly have any competition from AMD atm

I think they're expecting AMD's Phenom's to actually be Phenomenal :P.

It may be a hint towards AMD coming back into it, as the K10's are launching in July as well.

I'm sure they're connections go as high up.. Intel knows the performance of the K10's.

dammm I was just getting things worked out to get E6600 and now this :@ :@

This has put me into one more dilemma. To get E6600 or get a quad in july :lick:

But how long do i postpone my setup :@

with the price wars just beginning i reckon it'll take around 7-8 months for the prices to stabilize after Phenom X2's and X4's are released

so it's all up2 when a person can no longer live without an upgrade

as for the older models, i think they're just gonna be discontinued

surely the k10 arci is gonna be better than the current range that the reason new processors and price cuts from intel are coming so soon.

so do you say that the price drop is expected around july 22nd or sumthin ???? coz it seemed to me like the price drop was scheduled to aug-sep and new models are set to release on 22nd jul

same thing here ...but i was gonna buy in july first week....so will wait till july 3rd week.....

Wait for Quad core to become the norm. If you already have a dual core CPU, its not going to be a performance boost to die for. Just my two cents I guess.

with the Q6600 soon just costing $266 they have already become the norm, as and when AMD releases their Phenom X4's (at a price at par with Intel's really competitive pricing quadcore will go under $200 and thus enter the mainstream market

cool stuff happening all round:hap2:

Wonder what happens to e6300, e6320, e6400 & e6420.

Perhaps they will take place of Intel Pentium D's and Pentium 4's and AMD X2 3600+ may be replacing Athlon 64s and hence Semprons may be completely phased out. LOLz... Technology Rules!!

more likely they'll all be phased out and same products with lesser cache be released for sub5k mobo+proccy segment
