Its a massive kick in Oracle's hindside to be honest. They sued for billions, got next to nothing. (Maximum of US$300,000 for 2 counts of minor copyright infringement having maximum penalty of $150,000 each ).

This must have put giant smile on Goggle's face : 12 05 23 Oracle Google Patent Verdict

Even the Jury uses Google Products-> search, gmail, picasa, Google+, Android Phone and may be has a personal blog on blogspot :D

If this battle was fought under Indian judicial system, then the verdict would have come out after a couple of decades.

a little correction my friend, it'd take decades to start the case hearing
175 years later, West Bengal case goes on and on - Times Of India

Now the heirs want it back but legal experts say it won't be easy for the high court to take a decision on a case file that's been gathering dust for nearly two centuries. National and state boundaries have since changed and a substantial portion of the land once owned by Raja Rajkrishna Deb is now in Bangladesh.

Another two centuries of wait beckons :distrust: Wonder how Reliance can take an injunction like "John Doe" so quickly.

I was worried at one point because they were giving consideration to the idea that API's were copyrightable. That would have brought down curtains on lots of stuff.

In car analogy terms, API's are like steering wheels. You should be able to copyright a specific implementation, say Maruthi's EPS, but the general idea of a steering wheel should be free. Otherwise each car would require new learning from user.

Glad it's finally closed in favour of allowing open APIs.
