CPU/Mobo Just bought core2duo E6300/asus P5B-Help needed

hi everyone,
i just bought the e6300 and the asus p5b for my friend.
Now first of all,no secondary ide,that was a shocker.
he had 3 ide drives(2 optical and one pata).
The cpu heatsink is not upto the mark.
Mounting the heatsink right was a big headache.
Temps at idle in the bios shown 48c.Is that ok?
Also while trying to manually alter the clock speed,the window did not open(the one showing the ref clock speed):huh:
My friend paid 9700/- for proccy and 10900/- for mobo.

most mobo's for Conroe have just 1 IDE channel (supports only 2 IDE drives) coz they are build using the ICH7 or ICH8 southbridges... The Via and ATI southbridges have 2 IDE channel as well as SATA....

ICH7 which came along with 955 and 975 had 1 IDE native channel

ICH8 which came with 965 has 0 IDE native channel.If there is an IDE channel,its through a thrid party controller.

@ blue,

The P5B and P5B Delixe Temp. Sensors are inaccurate.

Normally 5 - 10 C higher.

Im gonna get a seperate temp. sensor, and check my temps.

Theres this problem with all BIOS's. Wait for a BIOS update, which should fix it.

If its not throttling, then its ok.

yes...there seems to be quite a lot of problems surrounding the Conroe motherboards.....I think its better to wait till the dust settles and if in hurry get an Opteron...

oc today to 290 fsb(2030mhz).
everest not yet compatible with 965 chipset.
Giving false temps and volt readings.
Btw its B2 stepping.

I have a 2 channel Promise PCI IDE controller which I dont care to use.

hey what are the stock voltages for e6300 and the max vcore to give it.
i will be going to arnd 2400mhz and thats it.

you should be able to do 2.4 Ghz on Stock vcore..

On stock cooling dont give more than 1.45 Vcore

Hmm,wierd problem.
Updated the p5b bios to the latest one.
Fsb just wont go over 315 .
Pc just doesnt boot after that.
I even tried to give 1.375vcore and still no effect.
Disabled Spread spectrum,C1E and vanderpool .
Multiplier at 7.
Any suggestions.:huh:

Try to increase the vNB (MCH) a bit. If the option is there :S.

Also, try 1.4 vCore.

have the same MB and E6300......running with 2x1gb Transcend 667mhz. 5/6/6. Latest Bios
Vcore is 1.3
400 mhz @ 2800....................runs beautifully 24x7 rendering machine. Stock cooler. Cpu shows 50 idle and 62 when busy.
all other settings are disabled.
