I am using the Airtel 250 + night top-up plan. The night top-up price is Rs. 100. I just got a mail from Airtel that they have increased the top-up rental to Rs. 199 from existing Rs. 99. Here's the mail:

Dear Airtel Customer,

We thank you for your patronage over the years.

As an endeavor to give u great service experience, we at airtel constantly work on upgrading our network and come out with new products like 'Games on demand' and 'Speed on demand' which were launched recently.

Speed on demand is a special feature that will enhance ur experience with airtel broadband. it allows u flexibility of staying with your existing plan and still being able to enhance the speeds according to ur requirements. thus experience a whole new definition of enjoying broadband. plz log on to :: Airtel :: Broadband Services - Bandwidth On Demand For you to experience the service.

Here i would like to bring to ur kind notice that we have modified the plan details for the DSL unlimited top-up that u have subscribed to. The unlimited services will now be available from 8 PM to 8 AM, instead of the current 9pm to 8am, with a superior experience backed by enhanced and upgraded network. The rental of the top-up is thus revised to Rs.199 per month.

I hope you will continue to enjoy the services. The new tariff will be applicable from ur next bill cycle(starting from the 26 nov 07).

For further information or requirement of changes in Plan, u may plz write to us at care.ncr@airtel.in or call us at 121.

Now, what the hell is this? and what is this "Speed on Demand" stuff. I am not able to open the "Speed on Demand" login page from my office.

Well, it lets you temporarily increase the speed, for watching streaming videos and stuff like that. Dunno about the pricing though.

ya, i have read that but since i am not able to login into the site, i can't view the details.

BTW, it would be a paid service (extra payment in addition to the basic tariff), so they have increased Rs. 100 for just 1 hour extra (8 p.m. - 8 a.m.): another reminder for people that this is THE broadband year!

I think this "Speed on Demand" is similar to TataIndicom's "Bandwidth on Demand". In this the user can select the browsing speed temporarily or for a fixed time slot.

It won't let you increase the speed. :(
If you have a 2mbps line, you may choose the speed 256kbps/512kbps/1mbps etc. i.e. any speed lower than 2 mbps...
Does anybody know what is the use of lowering the bandwidth if the cost is going to be the same???

i had mtnl earlier but removed it bcoz the bill was coming too high. MTNL charges Rs. 250 as phone rental even if u don't make any calls, so my bill was coming above Rs. 1000 every month.

mtnl nu is a serious doubt although i m on it but still i get bills above 1k and the timing is hilarious although i start downloads at 12:30 it still shows as if i started at 11:45........ >.<

Hi All,

I think this is diverging from the thread ... but to avail the MTNL night unlimited plan ... you have to reset the Modem at 12 in the night ... otherwise it continues the limited plan ... so if you forget to reset ... you are screwed ...

I think the 512 unlimited plan by Tata is the best right now ... though I am not using it ... using the power 360 plan for high speed downloads :)

Cheers!

~M

Yupp I got a call from airtel today telling me that if I want to continue using my NU I would have to pay Rs199 instead of 99. The NU timings were increased by 1hr to 8pm-8am.

this just mite be termed as shootin urself in the foot ..

Airtel indeed is going crazy .. just wen u wd have expected a firm like them to get more Meaningful plans out ..

I'm pretty happy with Airtel's new 512kbps unlimited plan for 1499 a month. I'm running out of things to download!! :D But it's heaven to be able to watch streaming videos without them breaking constantly to buffer!
