Hello folkes,

New guy here. Wanted to buy a decent pair of headphones and DAC, to be used with laptop. ('cause my new Acer notebook's onboard soundcard is complete crap, no bass whatsoever)

Still confused between E10 and E7 though. Haven't heard any of them. General response is E10 sounds better then E7, with more bass. but E7 has 3step bass control, while E10 has on/off (+3.0 if im correct) control and low/high gain switch. Does that make a lot of difference? I wont be using it as a portable headphone amp with a PMP or something like that though.

I will be using the setup for music 90% of the time. Trance/house and Orchestral scores, is what I listen to, so needed cans with lots of chest-thumping bass under Rs.3k. JVC RX700s are getting favorable reviews all over, seems to fit my need. Any other recommendations? I've 40mm Sony XD200 atm, and wanted to upgrade to 50mm cans, to be used with DAC.

Leaving too far from any metro, so cant audition anything and have to buy online only. Saw this new dealer Pristinnote in dealor's section. Worth going for it? Also where can I get JVC cans?

Thanks in advance. Your response would be highly appreciated!

AFAIK....JVC HP can't be bought here, you need to order it from USA/Amazon....or any dealer who can import it /ready stock for you.

don't know about RX700 much but I owned RX900 and Fiio E7 too....

RX900 can be easily driven by portable source like Cowon D2+ or Nokia N8....and it produce enough bass for my kind of liking's.

If you never plan to use the headphone portable then getting E10 will be much wiser choice than E7.

For Bass head...Top of the line choice must be M50 which is out of the budget, but I'm sure there is plenty of other offering from Audio-Technica in suitable budget/needs....and in that case you can claim Indian dealer warranty too.

thanks dissel.! Saw Audio Technica T500, similar sized (50mm) but reviews suggest JVC beats them when it comes to bass, so I'm slightly inclined about them.

Though would like to know more on how E10 fares compared to E7, as a DAC when attached to laptop.

Anyone please suggest a good store where I can buy JVC cans. Thanks.!

Ask Pristinenote if he has something in your price range for JVC and AudioTechnica. I'm sure they could provide warranty and shipping plus he's a reputed seller.

Already gone through their catalog, stuff like AD500/700 is what Im looking for, with lots of bass, but its out of my budget. From what I've read, JVC RX700s are 'poor man's AD700'

and highly recommended for bassheads. PristineNote haven't yet started offering JVC RX700, otherwise I'd surely buy from them only. @PristineNote, if you're reading this, please help..!

I think you've got it the other way around. AD500/700 are bass light. They hardly have any sub bass on them. Those are the kinda cans i'd recommend to someone who doesn't really like much bass in their music, absolutely not to a basshead.

You'd rather go for a AudioTechnica M35

AD700 and basshead term dont exactly match up

, AD700 has very little bass in it , but excels in every other platform be it gaming, movies or music . I would suggest AD700 to people who do not want much bass (not neccesarily only a basshead) , need it for other platform like gaming and movies , it is difficult to find a replacement for the same.

thanks guys for clearing this up. I did check out the specs of M35 too, but the only issue is they've 40mm drivers. I need something bigger, as I already have 40mm cans at the moment. JVC seems to fit my need. thoughts?

Lol....that statement doesn't make sense. If that theory was correct, earphones should have the worst sound quality. Trust me the size of drivers does not translate to better SQ.

I am confused. Why do you need a bigger driver?

is it the quality of the drivers important or the size for better sound quality?

I'm not implying that it has a better SQ, M35 and RX700, both I guess fall under same category and sound signature is also similar. It's just that JVC cans have a bit larger cups, should be more comfy on ears when compared to M35.

this review says M35 aren't completely circumaural, which is precisely what I'm looking for.

So I guess its time for you to take a shot. Jvc RX700 or the M35.

Personally I would go for the M35 and neither the E10 or the E7 but rather a HRT MS2(DAC) or the Fiio E17(DAC + Amp) for your laptop. HRT MS2 is an excellent DAC(the best at its price) while the E17 is a good dac + amp better than the E10 and excellent vfm. YMMV, of course
