I also remember meteroid, Castlevania, olyumpics (great multiplayer game), islander,

Played all the above games again and again

BTW: anyone played on a atari? I got an ATARI way back in 1984-85....at that time playing with joystick was total fun... it was a 4 bit game i think...had like 10-20 games on it and bought it from Japan

There was a kid in America who reached at level 256 & a letter of congratulation was sent to him by then President of US.

Tribute to Contra... in Google Reader, press the below key sequence

If you feel that the keys sequence is too familiar, you are right. It’s actually the cheat code for Contra, which is referenced in the song Anyone Else But You by the Moldy Peaches and featured on the Juno soundtrack.

Up up down down left right left right B A start

Just because we use cheats doesn’t mean we’re not smart

I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else

But you

As such, the number of unread items will also be changed to 30, because after entering this cheat code in Contra video game, players or gamers will have 30 lives too. via

I had cassette of Contra in which you get 30 lives by default and you also have other options like S gun, F gun(without using any codes).

Mappy, Mario bros., Ninja Gaiden, Bomberman, Adventure Island, Double Dragon, *thinking*.

I was just recollecting the respective OSTs of the games and can still hum parts of them. :P

Specially the opening sound when the Contra screen scrolls from the right. Excellent. Still clear in my head.

Yeah Double Dragon too was an excellent game. I used to play baseball on the 64 in 1 casette. Remember how you can control the ball if you press in the centre of the direction controller and then throw the ball. That was ossuummmm.... :)

yup...even i remeber the cocky ball in baseball:)....these were awesome fun when playing with friends and brothers

Which was that motorbike game, where the bike got heated, if one kept the accelerator pressed too long. Then the bike would park itself for 4-5 seconds on the side of the race track, all would zip buy..?

Hey dude, I had the atari console and chor-sipahi was fun :D if u had that cartridge.

You said MB3 had 30 stages in each zone, that s so untrue, It had max of 12 houses in each zone, But its all possible with the superpowers u ca select before entering houses.

The games in 8-bit box which came later like contra-force and mc-mario were really better fun and challenge.

Those were the golden days for we didn't had to upgrade our video games for playing new titles.
Now, its a different story.

I got my first video game when i was in 5th or 6th grade (can't remember exactly). Still have it in running condition. I have played most of the game titles mention, though my fav was contra, mario, pacman, bomberman, rockman and duck hunt ;)

there is one thing i still can't figure out¿ How the duck dies when we shoot at it?:D
hope some TE GURU will solve this case.

I played Berserk and some game(with six or so rows of monsters to knock out from below) on my cousin's Atari. I just loved the simple joystick(with the single red button on the upper left). Only thing was, the joysticks would get spoilt after a while and you needed to buy new ones.

I just loved the Atari. I loved the sound effects of those old games. Those programmers really did whatever they could given the limited hardware, graphics, and memory.

I used to go and play Contra on my friends' TV but I could never get the hang of the then new fangled joystick (with four buttons and a ball like 4 directional button :P).

I dread to think of what today's consoles have for controllers :) (never played on an Xbox or PS2/3 etc).

My favs were:

contra (lots of versions)

Russian Attack

Jackal

Alladin

super mario

batman

ninja ryukenden

double dragon

need time to remember others. Its more than 12 yrs now

lot much has changed in gaming, but not as addictive as those ones. :(

i used to have red eye almost all days.

HowStuffWorks "How does the light gun for a video game work?"

I hated Contra, Tank, or any sort of co-operative game. In my household, I was the youngest among 6 brothers and cousins and as such it was just another excuse to beat the shit out of me :@.

Contra: I don't keep up with my partner and cause him to fall into a pit because the screen wouldn't pan unless both the players moved together > Cue getting banged senseless with the controller :(.

Same story in Tank. I accidentally blow up my partner who had managed to turn into a supertank after hogging up on 3 of those STAR upgrades (which I am not allowed to pick up)? Maaro!
