KANPUR: Had Yash Chopra known the latent talent of Kanpur, he would have been shooting at 'thaggu ke laddu' with a altogether different star cast for his latest hit 'Bunty aur Babli'. The two 'reel-life' thugs in this film probably have to learn a lot more from the city's 'real-life' counterparts

The two city-based Haburas (criminal tribe) - Kancha and Gappu - have graduated themselves from smalltime-crime to the bigger version of the game.

Not only the district police cops but crime branch of Delhi and Mumbai police are also hunting for them for their 'Bunty aur Babli' acts of duping lakhs of rupees from highprofiled victims.

Sources in the police department told The Times of India on Thursday they have arrested one Amarjeet, a gang members, who has revealed substantial clues about the duo's operation. Amarjeet has claimed that the two along with him dupped a jeweller of Connaught Place last month of Rs 50,000.

Police also said that the Andhra Pradesh police had also visited Kanpur recently in search of Kancha and Gappu for looting Rs 5 lakhs from a business man.

Police say that the duo haburas usually target people withdrawing huge amounts from banks and dupe them on pretext of doubling or tripling the amounts under various schemes. Sources added that the duo, in fact, prefer to travel by air and stay in five star luxury hotels to project an impressive life style. Gappu is an expert in winning over the identified targets.

He operates through waiters of the luxury hotels for seeking information on the high profile customer staying in the hotel. Besides, his sister, identified as Chanchal is a bar girl in a leading pub of Mumbai and handles his network in metros.

Recently a police team, assigned to crack down the networking of Gappu and Kancha, had visited Delhi to get clues regarding their modus operandi.

A member of the team told TOI that Gappu and Kancha stayed in a luxury hotel in Delhi between June 7-14 and flew to Mumbai on June 15 before the police team could nab them.
