Kaspersky website hacked, customer activation codes exposed

A Romanian hacker broke into a custom built, U.S.-based Kaspersky Lab support website on Saturday, exposing a server containing thousands of customer email addresses and up to 25,000 activation codes.

Kaspersky's Roel Schouwenberg, a senior research engineer, said the company was conducting a full investigation into the matter. Initial analysis showed that the hacker accessed no data files, he said. The Russian-based antivirus company hired high-profile database security expert David Litchfield to conduct an independent audit of its systems.

Very sad.Someone's gonna lose a lot of customers now.....

OT - The hacker should join Sri Rama Sena as "The hacker said he notified Kaspersky in advance of his attack, but received no response."

Well i was thinking about downloading the TRIAL version for windows 7... you know, the news says it all... :) howz the experience of using the app.. somebody with kaspersky on their system could shed some experience..

^^Hey, it's not that bad. I don't think someone with the skills of hacking a security site is gonna waste time on hacking ur PC:) . You're safe.

KAV's a pretty decent AV suite. I just thought it slowed down my net/ network browsing and the number of false +ves were high.

The same group took down bitdefender a few days back. And the list of sites they have exposed is pretty long and illustrious.

Anyway nod32 seems to run the best for me.

Thats because we Indians never pay for intangible things like software:lol:

Going to get a 3 user license pack for myself. Not really bothered about their website getting hacked, as long as it keeps my computer safe.
