Dear TE Members,

We are running a one month long clean up drive to rid TE of the

  1. Rude posts. We all have been guilty of it at one point or another.
  2. Useless posts that add no value to the discussion. Even posts like ‘I vote for XYZ’ and ‘I completely agree’ fall under this category. We have a voting tool and like button for that. Ideally each post should be supported with proper statements.
  3. SMS lingo posts. Absolutely not needed on TE. Not even in General Talk.

We request all of you to report the posts which you feel fall under the above category. For the first two weeks we will suitably warn and edit/delete the posts. Then after 2 weeks we will infract/ban and edit/delete the posts.

This will help reinforce the values that we want to maintain on TE. If we don’t take such corrective action from time to time then things will just drift into the unwanted.

Please make the effort to help us out, as without your kind cooperation we cannot undertake this huge activity.

can we report posts from the dealer's paradise too?
One thing I don't like there is dealers making pointless updates just to bump up the thread to first page. Dealers should avoid posting unless there is some change in the deal being offered or a member needs feedback regarding something.

and thanks for this initiative.

I was planning to limit the scope of second point to non-market and non-GT sections only. Safin is anyway planning to overhaul the market structure so we should wait for that. Regardless, lets target the market section cleanup and rearrangment after the current drive.

Nice initiative, SMS lingo/slang is like a disease now-days, should be dealt with firmly & in time.

Also, for new members its sometimes difficult to find the right section to post a thread. Such threads/posts should be moved, ofcourse without Infractions.

"Bumping" a thread should be limited to "one" or "two" posts. Sometimes we see users posting numerous Bump replies, its a waste.

The "I agree", "Thank you", "Congratulations", "Salutations", etc. should be taken off promptly & Infractions issued accordingly.

With the exception of the market sections, I'll support TE in any way I can (as always ;) ). Hopefully the senior members who have been lurking for a really long time will start posting eventually. Do expect more official reps being assigned to techenclave.

Is this part to mean that from now on till end of March (suppose) you mods/admins will edit or delete such posts. Then From April onwards, if anyone (including previous offenders) flames, trolls, or writes useless/sms stuff like "+10 me too..." or "halp, ma comp froze.... wont wrk.....anymore..." they will be banned (for long time offenders i guess) or infracted (everyone)? Isn't it a bit too harsh?

Why not just make a hack or something so forum users can down rate the post and make it disappear/ grey out? I know that TE's not a blog, but, it looks mind boggling. How many posts will you guys delete a day?

Yes if someone cannot follow such simple rules then he is showing disregard to the community and it should lead to a ban. After two weeks it will be a ban (everyone) for a few days. Unless of course its a new member.

As many as it takes. We will see if that load is too much to handle. As of now we don't have any reported post.

One thing i would like to suggest is that TE assigns a new mod to the gamerz section who actually takes part in the discussion going on there. Otherwise people really keep posting sh1ts like, "hey this game has been leaked 1 week early", "get the rip, which size is only 2 gb" and such irritating posts/trolls. This is the section in which I'm most active and I don't want it to be spoiled.

Anyways i'm would be glad to help make TE better, i'm also supporting. :)

Agree with you. The discussion mostly gets sidetracked to file size, tracker name etc. Need to arrest that. We all know about the existence of torrents and all the games getting leaked early. It would be better if we stick to the gameplay and related issues discussions.

I will try to help from my side and will also refrain myself from using sms lingos which i commonly use :P

Extremely happy to see this initiative. I am sure I'm guilty of some of the aforementioned bad habits myself haha!

I just hope that in the long run TE does not turn out to be a Nazi Death Camp like that motoring website, whatsitsname? team-bhp?

@OP.

i dont think u have any idea what u want to do.

Why the hell did u give me a warning for "that is a download rig?". THAT pc being used as a download rig maybe surprising for others.

If i dont have freedom of voicing my opinion then what the hell? Then why dont u delete the entire showoff section? They are completely pointless

subsection according to your rule.

Yea dont come up with some wise crack to justify ur lame action.

I feel show off section should be exempt from such a strict policing otherwise the whole site becomes too formal. There are certain times especially when viewing gadgets, one needs to vent out his feelings. One cannot be expected to write a sentence about it if few smilies and one liners do the job at hand.

yea.. give another warning. give the key to thieves.

waste of time talking with people like this.

Agreed. I don't think we have taken any action there yet.

Well my bad. Sorry. :)

Anyway it was just a warning. You could have sent me a PM and I would have reversed that. You have been on TE long enough to know that. Why the hormones?

^^

You could have said that via a PM/Post also. you need to show the "boss" attitude. I did the "servant" attitude.

Great initiative.

@ m-jeri... I can understand your frustration but if you have a problem with how your post / thread was handled by the staff, take it up with them via PM. Even if you have to talk about it in public, why the hostility?

One of the reasons they are doing all this is to improve the overall communication levels between members. Just ask nicely!
