has a zoo, and a park, and some great old architecture

Kanakunnu,

More lawns and ye olde kerala/british architecture

not worth visiting in itself, but a good place to drop by on the way back from vzm

Shankhumugham Beach

Just another beach

Veli Tourist Village

Napier Museum (or Museum as it is plainly known as over here) and Kanakakunnu Palace

Kovalam Beach

Ponmudi Hill Station

don't miss out on Varkala !

Another Nice beach

#greenhorn : I see so many places being mentioned here.. Why were we shown only to Kovalam beach, Peppara dam and the only CCD in TVM, when we visited about 2.5 years ago
<

in kerala once you've seen one beach, you've seen them all
<

the museum was in the city, and the rest of the stuff would have taken you guys longer

even ponmudi was on the same road we went to peppara on, but it would have been longer, and the roads were worse and steeper, and we didnt want to drive on those roads
<

get a jeep or a taxi if you're heading that side

Plus peppara dam is one of the lesser known spots, and one of our favourites
<

Good restaurant to have hardcore kerala food???

black pepper - but its non veg and expect a lot of beef, duck, pork and all that
<

also http://www.kethelschicken.com/

just a reminder, if you plan to go to see some temples, ensure that you have the proper clothing, some temples do not allow pants etc, you need to be clothed in dhoti. For the females, sari.

Oh and one more to Vivek's suggestion. Most temples make men go topless
<
...no banians too, towel as a upper wear is allowed and wear dhoti.

Sarees are a must, no other options. Many observe silence and strictly will stare at you if you end up gossiping loudly.
