I recently had time to kill(thanksgiving) and did the vmod to my 7900gt(partly due to nfs carbon:@ ), I have hit 640/870 stable (passes at 669 but isn't stable in 3d for long), the temps however have gone thru the roof touching 112c for the core on heavy load. The core slowdown is however 130C, so (I know I'm being lazy), should I bother with a better cooler?

Its thanksgiving and i am sure you can find some pretty deals,if you get such a deal, why not get a good cooler ?

To what i remember, U played games at 1024x768, & it'd be worth mentioning what Performance boost are u getting in the inferiorly coded CARBON for which u put ur GPU on that Frying state ??

^^removed the vcore mod (was at 1.4V),may fiddle around with the 1.25V or 1.3V mods later.Right now at 555/1.72(mem mod is wonderful, lol), also cleaned the cooler and applied artic silver ceramique to the core, should keep it cooler.

112c was damm scary ... my one never crossed 60c yet .. at 550/1400 for now .. i tested 620/1750 , max load temps were just under 65c ... man am i glad .. still increasing , lets see how far i can go before i decide a good oc to run at ... i expect around 625/1800 :D

^ Not really worth investing in a 7900GT cooler and all newer cards are gonna be dual slots anyways..
