i went through this thread few days back, i was like how can someone fall for this, i mean 32gb comes for at least 4k.

n guess what, yesterday my friend got the same thing for me, my first reaction was WTF.

but the good thing about her deal is that she managed to get it just for 100 INR, gals are good at bargaining.

a 100? damn...

Kingston 16GB is available in Kolkata for 1.5K w/o bill and warranty. The dealer said he will test it in front of me before handing me over.

my frnd also bought a 32gb kingston from delhi for 200 bucks although he knew it was 99.99% fake.

when he came back, 99.99 changed to 100%.

although it still works as a 1 gb drive.

" ME "

Duped on 30 th of March 2009 at MG Road Pune by Dev Choudhary

that person said he brought that 32 GB piece from custom, It was hard to believe so i tried to be a smart ass and checked the pen drive there on my laptop, I was satisfied then, I did a few KB files copying and checked if it has write access, all worked fine. After negotiation I purchased it in 600 bucks.

Now when I m trying to copy heavy files and pasting on my PC from laptop, the drive surrenders, it creates blank folders.

he gave me his number , though I have not tried to call him but still mentioning it

Now atleast your friend learnt a lesson. My friend didnt. Heres what happend.

A friend of mine got 32gb pendrive from palika. Same thing files copy at blazing 35mbps speed on to the pendrive and when he took it to another machine all files were there but they didnt copy off.

Another friend of mine saw this and I told him its a fake and so he went to palika and came back with a 64gb pendrive with the same problem. He insisted he tested it and it was copying 64gb on there. I then told him to take it to another comp and try to copy the data off. Once he tried that his face turned sour.

A lesson leant twice :p

ROFLmao! People actually falling for this crap. I myself know 3 people who bought 32 gig versions for Rs350 at Palika, I mean WTF were they thinking.

Need to get real. The Memory controllers or whatever are just tuned to show 32 GB data.

guys i know people who had adequate technical literacy and still bought them becos they were dirt cheap .

they felt that the deal is unbelievable but when they deal is too good to be true then its not true !!

ha ha! many suckers in my company in the IT dept got a similar 32gb drive for 500 bucks a piece. The salesman made a cool 5-6k in the half to 1 hr he was there. The same story, people just put the pendrive to see the free space present on it, found it had some 31gb free and bought it.

Seems like the actual space of the drives was just around 250mb or so.

I found a tool on the net while researching these fake drives and found out a chinese forum where they sold a software to create multiple fake (alias) partitions in the pen drives.

I also found a tool to check against such fake pen drives from a russian site.

Search google for h2testw or chipgenius to get the checker utility and find the chip and actual size of the drives.

Hope this info helps a lot of guys here. :hap2:

Forgot to mention the main point here: Fakes dont have any serial numbers printed on them!! SO do check for serial numbers. It should be printed on top or on any one side of the drive case.

Warn him not to get it.

Already did it..but he is not ready to understand...he says its LFW how can this ppl ssell fake in hyatt its discounted rate....also another 4-5 peeps getting same frm the guy...i m at wait and watch stage.....

But i m sure its fake...becoz on first day counter was there....but yesterday he told its shut...may b they ran away..lolz

okk update...frnd got a single disc for himself he was ready to buy 5......becoz of my concerned he bought only 1...

Kingston data traveller 32gb.....

when i got it..i was amazed with it looks and how firm it looked...i was like 32 gb and that too this firm only 600...than started formatting....done

Than copied a file...700mb...was amazed again copied at 23mb per second.....when done....

than try to play it...and was bang it said cannot render file.....i was bang its fake

Did another test..again formatted the drive....and tried to copy 25gb stuff into it..after 1 file was getting errors.......indirectly that comp file size has been changed so cant copied and all..and other which were getting copied..was getting errors....cannot render....

Again confirmed its fake

......

Now in order to hit final nail i thought to dissect the firm drive......

and was like shock it took jus 6 seconds with raw hand to reach the level to see chips and memory controller....as..the main chip was important to see to know the serial number......saw and was shocked the main chip was blank.....and had pencil marking of 74 like written stuff.....

So finally proved i saved other and frnd got fooled

note::Frnd is big shot so it doesnt matter to him but others who were ready to buy are all small shots..and theyll b happy now
