KMPlayer - MediaPlayer | Free and better than Videolan

I came across KMPlayer a while back while browsing doom9. It plays all formats has amazing full screen controls.

+ Plays all/any formats [including real and quicktime formats]

+ All codecs/splitters/filters are built in (like MPC) = no more codec packs

+ Custom Media/DVD Playback

+ Winamp Integration (uses winamp plugins to play audio) + can use Winamp DSPS (finally we can get enhancer working with Video)

enhancer > DFX

+ uses MPlayer in case none of the inbuilt codecs work

+ Dscaler Filters can be used to deinterlace video

+ WMV handling is better than Microsoft Media Player lol

+ skinnable

There are to many things i forgot to mention but once you guys try this player out i dont think u'll use anything else :) atleast i'm not using anything else lol

Videolan takes screenshots from videos and even has a feature to play the active video on the desktop like as if the video was a wallpaper.

And this is better? :-D
 
excellent software ... winamp plugin integration is cool ... videos sound so much better with this + plugins :D

If you like videolan use it. Its your call. KMplayer is better from my perspective

FYI

1. try seeking in a wmv file .. you'll know what i mean. while you are at it look at all the options available to play windows media

that screenshot was taken when i was "remote desktoping" to my computer.

Theres also a desktop mode in playback options. I haven't tried that out yet. That might be the one you were looking for.
 
The screenshots thing looks promising. Will try it out for sure. I did some browsing around & it seems to have a cool factor+ they've taken quite a bit from the free software movement while adding couple of algorithims of their own. Of course would take quite a bit of time to run it through it paces before it falls wayside or becomes a useful tool but anyway interesting development model.
 
btw this requires no additional codecs like vlc ?

it has inbuilt plugings taht play everything correct?looks damn sweet and skinnable too

Anyone who wants screencapture functionality, just use Fraps. The screenshot hotkey works universally whether you're playing games or watching videos in the player of your choice.
 
^^ Is it cause when I try on movies I just get a black screenshot. Do you need the registered version ?

No, works just as well with the free version.

Maybe your hotkeys are dirty. Avoid the function keys, they are shared half the time.
I use NUM_* for screenshots and NUM_/ for videos.

 
Good player .. but one place where VLC scores over others is that it can play unfinished video files -- ie. it can preview Video files whithout it actually being complete..
Can KM Player do that as well??

EDIT: My apologies.. KM player supports partial video previewing too!
I seem to like this player very much.. thanx guyz!
has subs rendering too! :)
 
Its got one simple but must have feature - fullscreen controls :) which's not available in videolan

there are many apps which let you take screenshots from videos. mpc, vlc, virtualdub just to name a few. however if you don't have any of these installed and still want to take a screenie.. you can do it the manual way:

right click desktop -> properties -> settings -> advanced -> troubleshooting.
set the hardware acceleration slider to none. after you apply you can use print screen key on your keyboard to capture the frame.

some nvidia cards may give you error messages and dialog boxes, just ignore those until your'e done with the screenshot. make sure you turn hardware acceleration back to full when you're finished though.
