Hey pros,

I'm thinking of getting myself a pair of cheap customs.

I own 2 BA IEMs right now - Etymotic ER6i and Klipsch custom 2. My attempt with Triplefi 10 did not go very well as I had fitting issues and I sold it off.

I purchased Klipsch X10 but thinking of selling it off and getting Kozee X1.

I'm planning for X1 executive version.

Has anybody has any experience with Kozee? How easy or difficult would it be to make the ear impression and sending them back?

Any recommendation or suggestion is most welcome.

Won't be a great upgrade from universals going by Joker's SQ score. Kozee had plenty of customer service issues at one stage, which is why I never considered them.

The rest of your questions need to be answered by others who own customs. Tagging #Ritvik, #strategy for that.

Thank you esanthosh. I was hoping that you will reply today

I would be more than happy if they sounded close to my other two BA phones. The main intention to go for customs is to get the best possible fit.

Or will it be advisable to get my custom 2 re-shelled by them?

I'm open to other customs manufacturers as well but I can't really spend some 400$ for them.

If you can, research head-fi about Kozee's current service status before taking the plunge.

As far as re-shelling goes, you may or may not get back the same sound signature. I would suggest that Infinity X1 might be a better option to take since the price difference is not too large between them. It's an actual custom and while it may not sound great like CTM-200 at a bit more than double the price, it would sound pretty decent if the SQ score of 8.5 is any indication.

If your primary quest is about fit than customs, you can try cheaper options too (http://earfuze.com/store.html, Options similar to what's shown here - http://www.enhancedlistening.co.uk/Shooting-Earplugs/Earplugs---DIY-Custom-Fit-Earplugs/p-322-1522/). Someone made RE-262 "custom" out of Proguard Putty. These would not approach the customs in terms of quality or fit, but are interesting cheaper options to explore.

Ear impressions : EASY : you need to locate audiologist for the impressions, its no big deal in a city, just ask any ENT specialist about the audiologist and he will recommend you one. give him instructions and he wont have any problems . the charge is cheap here in India , Rs100 per ear ( or around that , mine cost me 110 per ear. ) instructions are given here ( source JHAUDIO )

Where to send those impressions? : HARD

i will advice that you go for cheap custom option rather than re-shelling your BA ( unless you really like your IEM, and having problem with fit. )

getting customs is serious commitment , it requires lot of time ( specially in India ), money ( specially in India ) , and low resale value ( specially in India ) . so its better to go for an upgrade rather than small improvements .

So my advice , decide what type of sound you like and choose between the entry level customs ( entry level good customs , viz UM mage, 1943 Q/T , etc. )

@esanthosh Thanks again for bringing up some more options to consider. The Fuze models appear to be good value for money but the build does appear pretty cheap. I will do some reaserching on the other manufacturers.

@strategy I was actually a bit reluctant to do make the impressions myself and thanks for clarifying that any ENT specialist can do that. If you don't mind me asking, what channel did you use for UM miracle? Did you go through Lynx? How much did they cost?

Guys, thanks again

a correction there , ENT specialist will recommend you an audiologist , he wont do the impressions , he will tell you where to go.

its better to let the professionals handle the impressions ...as it costs only 200-250 including everything.

yeah lynx india. 43K.
