External. :P

Lacie doesn't make hard drives. How's the warranty? I'd prefer going for external drives from WD/ Seagate just for the warranty and the definite knowledge of the hard drive I'm getting.

Thx for the info, i think its pretty cheap of Lacie to do this.

Unfortunately it seems the price of convenience some times isn't worth it

I would have also gone for seagate or WD but currently seagate has that 7200.11 issue and WD GP has that load unload issue which increases its count rapidly in some cases,so i went for Lacie ,since i heard some good words for it and anyway i dont think samsung drive is that bad ,on a unlucky day any drive can fail..
and about warranty it has 2 years warranty and for RMA u need to contact the importer in chennai(what cost 2 cost guy told me) ,which is going to be troublesome, anyway i dont care much about warranty and RMA ,i believe once drive is gone bad destroy it out instead of giving it back which contains some of ur personal information.

samsung spinpoint f1 are really good drives.

its just that samsung doesnt have a name like WD or seagate.

wow throwing 5k worth thing :ashamed:

No way i am going to throw it that easy ,before throwing i will open the dead drive ,detach the header and motor stuff and then will give it a good hammering ,duration of which will depend how much angry i will be on that day. :D :D

Wow, u must be saving all your top secret data on those external drives :P!

What I meant by going for WD or Seagate was that Lacie or any other brand making external casings are not always open about the HDDs they use. Except for styling and brand name, they don't bring anything extra to the table compared to HDD manufacturers like WD/ Seagate.

@ahit - lol! most of ur anger will fade away while trying to open up the drive!!
happened to me too!(but it was way back regarding a toy!:ashamed: )

Right, so the bottom line is its good provided the Lacie does indeed contain a Samsung F1.

This info is not always publically available tho is it ?
