Laptops Laptop for abt 45K.

MY sister needs a new laptop. Dad has fixed budget at abt 45K. Plus or minus a bit obviously.

I had a look at the Dell Inspiron 6400 range. Abt 53K with C2D T5xxx 1.7 ghz, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD, Vista Home basic 32-bit something...

Looking at HP now.

I want Core 2 Duo for sure. and 1 GB of RAM. and as large a storage space as I can get. And yes, a DVD-Writer as well.
* What's your Budget? (e.g. >30K, not more than 50K etc.) --- 45K. And a bit more
* What will be your primary usage for the notebook be? (e.g. web surfing/office apps/Casual Gaming) --- Normal stuff. No gaming. Mainly internet, chatting, music, movies, etc.
* What size and weight considerations do you have? (e.g. Do you want a 17" desktop replacement or you want an ultraportable 12" or something in between) --- No particular size preference. Maximum abt 15"
* Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? (e.g some would prefer to stay away from Acer or Dell) -- Nothing. My sister doesnt like Acer though.
* Any other considerations? (e.g Battery life; Widescreen/non-widescreen; Glossy/Matte screen etc.) --- Sound should be loud !! Very loud. My dad's Acer Ferrari has pathetic sound. So does my mom's Dell Inspiron something.

What is the price of this HP dv2504 ?? it seems decent enough.
HP Pavilion dv2504TU Entertainment Notebook PC specifications - HP Home & Home Office products

Best part is this
Internal audio
3D Sound Blaster Pro compatible sound 16 bit integrated
Speakers and microphone
Altec Lansing® speakers

Seems the sound will be loud enough.

Any other suggestions apart from the Dell and this HP ?? I have a feeling this HP is going to be ridiculously expensive.

I hate to say this mate but Acer 5583 is your calling for that budget. Check the specs of that here and you might just change your mind about an Acer lappy ;)

As for that HP link in your post, thats the one with a Santa Rosa proccy..Atleast a month before it hits India. :@

Nikhil, get the Dell. If you know how to talk, you'll get almost everything :P

Ask them for Vista Home Premium, and a DVD-RW plus a tax cut, you'll get it :D

That HP is a Santa Rosa like AMD4Life noted!! :O
Expect that to take a while to reach India and moreover prices to much on the higher side!!!

Besides, i see that with your Sis's requirements for a lappie, you dont need to get the latest Santa Rosa based notebook.. Moreover expect a price drop for the older gen.

The Dell Inspiron 6400 is a good lappie but its a bit heavy in the weight department and lagging behind in looks.. Only good thing in its favour is its good build quality.. Moreover its pretty big with a 15.4" screen..

For a girl, I would suggest going for a HP notebook as they more lighter, thinner and more stylish.. If you still want a 15.4" check out the HP Dv6000t..

Dude, I like Acers !! I made sure my dad bought an Acer Ferrari. I recommended Acer to another friend of mine.

I have a good opinion of Acers.

And do you think it is advisable to wait till the Santa Rosa proccies hit the market ??

^ Totally. Cause I can see that notebook in your hands one day, banging the floor in frustration as to why you didn't buy a SR :D

D-uh....10 mnths ago, Core Duos were the in-thing...6mnths ago, it was the Core2 Duo

Now it's Santa Rosa....The time to market for new tech keeps coming down and you can keep waiting forever by that logic

You are not going to see any noticeable difference between a Merom and Santa Rosa on a notebook....

I don't see any between the Yonah and Merom

Having said that, notebooks with Santa Rosa have already sterted hitiing the market, but te range would be limited to start with...don't base your decision on that

Cool! So you can get that in case you wanna purchase the lappy immediately. :)

As for waiting for Santa Rosa..I'm already doing that :ashamed: For the past week or so, have been calling up Delhi's HP showrooms and visiting multibrand resellers for the availability of the same. But no luck yet..:(

Santa Rosa is out.... too expensive. MY sister does not need so much of computing power. A normal C2D 1.6 ghz will be good enough.

Or the smaller Dell Inspiron 640M . ITs got integrated graphics i think but as you said thats not a big issue. She's probably even like it more as its lighter and smaller than the 6400.

thinking of getting ACER5583 for rs 38499 plus taxes. are acer laptops reliable?

Well I'll have to say YES to that. I've been using an Acer 4602 for more than 18 months now and it has never seen the face of a service center. Rock solid performance.

cool.:hap2:
which one is better Compaq V3228/3155 or acer 5683?
compaq one has turion proccy with geforce 6150 where as acer one has core 2 duo with GMA 950. Compaq one coasts around 32.isnt 6150 better than 950 in graphics?

:) The acer laptop is quite good. I have purchased it for my bro...

I upgraded it to a 1 gb ram(ddr2 667 MHz). I will post a few benchmarks and

pics this weekend.:hap2:

I think that is the best bang for buck. However if you need an os you pay extra:P
