cool.:hap2:

which one is better Compaq V3228/3155 or acer 5683?

compaq one has turion proccy with geforce 6150 where as acer one has core 2 duo with GMA 950. Compaq one coasts around 32.isnt 6150 better than 950 in graphics?

the 3228 is better in terms of graphics card but lacks the dual core processor, so if u want to be able to absolutely run some old games on the laptop the 3228 is the choice for you

ok thnx :) .
But out of both of these taking everything into account(including compaq v acer) which one will be better? i mean which will serve better in along run. dont have budget more than 40k(max) so got to get between these two.

in the long run a dual core will be better then the single core as dual core apps start trickling in

but the GMA 950 is a problem

oh and at 40k get urself the Dell 640n for 14.1 screen

:) Well upto games like quake 4 should not be a problem since I played that on the gma 950...

But again if you are a true gamer then you neither fits the bill...

So if it is for general usage then the core 2 duo proc is far better then the amd one :):)

Dude its a no-contest to be honest. The go6150 is slightly better than GMA950 but not by a huge margin and do note that both are capable of running Aero.
Now, the Acer config offers you a C2D T5500 proccy Vs. a single-core Turion proccy in the Compaq..Do we even need to comment which one's better? :ohyeah:

DEEPAK

acer 5583 comes with CORE 2 DUO(T5500)not core duo . so its only core 2 duo within 40k i assume.:). dont wana go for DELL since doesnt know how their service is plus compaq , acer has service centres near by.

rajpol

so u r happy with ur lappy?;) is it company scheme for free upgrade to 1GB? dealer doesnt told me that. and do carry bag is priced extra +tax ,if i dont wana purchase bag then ?

AMD4LIFE

ya no need to comment(even no need to think );)that C2D is better but only think that makes me go for compaq even its less config. was their reliability and service centres. never experienced acer b4 so was bit worried. but now i think its better to go for acer only. all high end features it have, just noticed i has bluetooth as well. cool. :)

regarding the dell service, its onsite and thats y i suggested u the dell 640 (the service is almost as good as it can get in india)

acer service well its a bag of mixed reviews for me and thats y didnt suggest the acer one, even tho the config is GREAT

thnx alot. will see about dell one too:) .

^^I do not know whether it was company scheme...That was offered to me by Acer Mall Manipal Center Bangalore....But it should be company scheme because otherwise an individual would not upgrade it...:bleh:

What I changed was the ram from 533 to 667 and he took a 1000 bucks extra...:hap2:

Also instead of ram upgrade he was offering some pen drives etc(two choices)...

I should suggest you visit an acer mall in your city...

Good luck

Ok... I had totally decided on the XPS M1210.

Now, that is out coz the screen is too small for my sis (dont roll your eyes :P. She is the one who will be using it).

Acer does not have a good enough lappy. My dad's budget is now higher. Abt 60K or so.

I am looking at the HP DV6100 series. Seems decent enough... any comments ??

And yeah, the Dell Inspirons are out coz they look too boring (roll your eyes here :P ).

^^^Get the Lenovo Y500 7611-37Q (Google for specs re :P).. Got this for a friend less than a week back for 60K + an additional gig of RAM free :D

dv6100 series (i.e. 6137tx) is awesome but it has been sadly discontinued.

For good looking laptops, the white-bumpered Dell is wayyyy out of the race. The Latitude series are sleeker but they still aren't close to a "beauty". Nikhil, I honestly feel you are looking the wrong brands and the wrong specs. Lenovo is rugged and well-built; hardly good-looking.

The two brands that easily make it to the best looking laptops currently IMHO are:

Sony Vaio

HP DV Series

Am basing this opinion from my extended research over the past 3 weeks for a good-looking powerful laptop for myself. :D Am finally buying the Vaio FZ from the US. But anyway, I walked into a eZone shop a few days back and checked out all the laptops there. And lemme tell you, nothing came close to the Vaio's beauty. Not even the HP with it's glossy imprint finish and all that jazz.

The Vaio N Series is available for 54k (at eZone) with only 512MB RAM but am sure you can upgrade that to 1GB easily. The rest of the specs are standard stuff - 1.66ghz C2D, Vista Home Premium, 80GB HDD n so on. :)

If you want looks, buy a Vaio - please. Your sis will love it. Also, if looks are a big criterion in buying a laptop, go ahead n visit a multi-brand store like eZone before buying. The Vaio, the MacBook and the HP were by far the best looking laptops there.

I can't believe noone suggested a Vaio till now. :)

Payne

PS: I do NOT think you have to sacrifice power for looks - check out the entire Vaio range. Am sure you'll find a model to fit your budget.

EDIT: Check out the Vaio C-series also. 13.3" screen and available in black. Super-light laptop. Same price - 54k. :)

C-series> Sony India - like no other

N-series> Sony India - like no other

Naah..not much of a looker but feature packed for sure..

Since you've waited a bit already, wait a lil' longer till mid-June, HP would be launching their dv6300 series here, retaining the same looks as the dv6100 series but it'd be even better when it comes to performance ;)

Sony Vaio's are hot but their specs don't deserve the premium IMHO. No offence to Vaio fanbois. :P

Different strokes for different people. :) The fact still remains that it's his sister he's buying the laptop for and not for himself. I don't see how a C2D 1.66, 1GB RAM, DVD-writer are in anyway "underpowered" for any everyday computing task. And btw, the FZ am looking at in the US has no premium at all - in fact it's on par with the Asus offerings with the same specs. :)

It's just that I hate the term 'fanboi'. :D I use an Acer right now, and I know what it's worth and what it's not. At the same time, I would not recommend a 90k Vaio till someone had bags of dosh to throw around. But this is a 54k Vaio (C/N series), the same price point as the HP DV 6226 (that's 58k wid 1GB and a GF7400). What you lose in the gfx, you more than make up for in sheer style and elegance. Of course, you can always configure a damn good white-bumper Dell 6400 for that price. But as I said, different strokes for different people.

If he'd asked for performance, then it'd be a different matter altogether. There is no perfect laptop for everyone out there, nor will there ever be. Only the perfect one for each individual's tastes. :)
