which way would be the best(and cheapest) to procure
a laptop in US

1.from a website?

2.from a store?

3.from direct company's website like dell?

any inputs will be highly appreciated.

try to find deals using newegg, amazon, bestbuy.com ...etc

Each of the sites has varying offers depending on the various occasions..

Check deal2buy.com also

^ btw if you are getting someone to get it for you through the aerial route, try not to get it in the sealed box packing it came along with. Getting it in a laptop bag would be a wise thing, so as to avoid any chance of customs wanting to act nasty.

ps- thank you for the rep!

take a look at deals2buy.com. This site does not deal with purchases but lists the best deals that are available in other sites like amazon, newegg etc.

Note: Avoid refurbished models.

Just to add recently i.e from Thanks giving to New Year I have been watching the deals carefully. In case you are serious about buying it from US just tell me the Amount you can spare in Dollars.I will suggest the best possible configuration.

looking for a 15" screen and prefered brands are dell,HP,
sony and toshiba.

keep checking deals2buy.com and act quick when you see a deal coz some of the coupons posted only last for a few hours.

And most of the times, with the coupons posted on that site, buying from the company's website ( e.g. Dell) becomes cheaper than newegg, amazon etc

FYi...Better choose Asus from Amazon.com as your first preference. They have 2 years Global warranty and 1 year accidental warranty free.

Check these

ASUS K61IC-A1 16-Inch Black Versatile Entertainment Laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium)
Amazon.com: ASUS K50IJ-X8 15.6-Inch Black Versatile Entertainment Laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium): Electronics

Best Deal
Amazon.com: ASUS U50Vg-B1 15.6-Inch Black Laptop (Windows Vista Premium): Computer & Accessories - 700$

I will update you as soon as I find some more

why on earth has the customs rules have changed... :@ only one laptop is allowed now.. i had to lie to them that i had bought both of them in India.. i guess i had made the puppy face so they left me early.. :P

- As far as deals are concerned, I know one site which offers it.

DealsOfAmerica.com-Hot Deals, Coupons, Online Shopping Deals, Deals, Dell Coupons, HP Coupons!. You will find good deals in Dell, HP, Lenovo there. (You will have to search little more, may be)

I found this one interesting

- HP Official Store — Buy an HP Pavilion dv6 and dv6t series notebook PC from HP

HP DV6t series BASE PRICE : $649

Customize it with

1) 4 GB DDR3 (free upgrade)

2) 320 GB 7200 rpm HDD (free upgrade)

hi, kindly share your experience.

Is it okay to buy from the websites being suggested above or from Amazon? Do they deliver what they promise? Or it can turn out to be a bad deal!

If I want to buy directly from say ASUS US, is that possible? Will they courier the laptop to India if I order on their US website? Likewise from Dell US?

^^ Asus does not sell directly in the US. If you want to buy an Asus lapppy it will have to be through one of the regular online stores like newegg/amazon or specialized resellers like xoticpc, gentech etc.
Some of them do ship internationally, not all. International shipping for a laptop will defeat the whole purpose of buying it abroad. Additionally, customs could prove to be a killer

which is the best place to buy asus (read CHEAPER!)?

and what about each store's individual warranty policies? I heard someone in TE discouraging purchase of asus from bestbuy, because of Warranty terms.

LEt us know, thanks

The warranty terms differ only with BestBuy(for the reason given below)
Take a look at his forum here ->Asus Laptop Forums - Asus Notebook Computer Discussions
They have a sticky thread listing various asus resellers with pros and cons. Imo gentech & XoticPC are among the best. In terms of support, service and customization options. Pricing at most of these resellers is going to be exactly the same.

I was the one who mentioned about Asus lappies at BestBuy :-)
Bestbuy gets custom configured asus lappies which are sold only by them. Hence, they come with a BestBuy warranty which is obviously NOT international, like the regular Asus warranty.

I however HAVE to admit that they offer some great bargains. If you don't care about the warranty, sure.. go ahead and buy from them.
