Hi, i wanna change my sony vaio laptop's harddisk as its hdd got crashed.. Can it be done myself? Or better to give to service centres? They take hell of time to get it repaired , thats why i'm thinking of doing it myself.. I had pretty good knowledge about desktop but never disassembled a lappy. . . What you guys say.. Should i go ahead or. . . :)

if you can change an electric bulb, you can change a laptop hdd too

just unscrew the hdd chamber (usually on the bottom, though you can always do an online hunt for your model's service manual for detailed instructions), take out the old one, and put the new one in

hahaha... well said.. trust me anish its too easy to change the hdd, may be much easier then changing the hdd in your computer cabinet....

But this sony models makes it a tedious task i guess.. So many screws n also have to take the keyboard n all to pull out the harddisk.. Anyway i'm gonna try..

Sony is arguably the worst when it comes making their products easy to upgrade/replace.

But it shouldn't be too hard as long as your hard drive is on the bottom or on the side of the laptop. If its underneath the keyboard though, it could get a little complicated.

True, but i believe all the current models have their HDD placed at bottom only. Those old VAIOs use to have HDD beneath the keyboard. Lots of nuts needed to be opened up for getting the things done :)

I have done it guys, atlast, it was easy, but the sony models r weird i should say, i have to unscrew all the 13 screws at the bottom, then took the keyboard out then one screw at the middle and then four screws to pull out the harddisk ! ! ! . .
