Starting range for HP laptops would be 30K-35K IMO.

You can check out these models around 25K

1) Compaq Presario CQ40-301TU Notebook PC : around 26K

2) Acer Aspire 5536 : 27K may be

3) Dell Inspiron 14 : 28.9 K

4) Some models should be available in Zenith and HCL for 25K. But dont have much details

As far as EMI is concerned, AFAIK Croma store is having emi options on notebooks. You can visit the store.

IF you can stretch you budget to 30K, You would find some decent as well as good models n Dell, acer etc.

In budget of 25K it's better to look for NETBOOK if your purpose is study, net surfing and some basic office tasks.

Official Range for laptop ---HP /Compaq...

Non Atom based... 38 K onwards...

Atom based : 20 K onwards....

Even zenith laptops will cost more than 25K for Non Atom based... they might cost like 27K but thats just semantics... Not 25K.... on the other hand Zenith /HCL / HP (Non Atom Based / Non Intel C2D laptops) will be 22K + comes with a smaller Hdd and lesser RAM are actually models kept in bigger malls for so much time that... expiry date on them if any is running out... they can be like 22K, or 24 K real pain is to find such laptops ... you have to look for them... malls, electronic stores like next, king, vijay sales etc...

I suggest you to stretch your budget a little more around 30-35k and Get Dell instead of HP. its lot better. plus 25k sound like a budget for PCs rather a laptops:P

Sonia, I suggest that you get a NetBook if your course might require you to carry your system around. I am doing an MBA course myself. I have a 15" laptop, but I don't take it to classes, meetings, etc unless absolutely necessary, because I hate lugging it around. There are a few super studious souls who do carry their 14" and 15" laptops to most activities, but I think the smartest ones are those who take their NetBooks. If your course requires as much computer use as mine does, then a NetBook might be a much better option for you.

Based on suggestions I got in another thread I started a few days back, I am planning to get an Asus 1005HA for 20.5k.

But of course, if you also want to watch movies in high definition on a larger screen, a NetBook won't be the right choice for you!

If a Person could increase the budget then there would be no problem of "Choice". The Solution should be oriented to Achieving the best in the perfect budget. Please try for HP540 i believe the last it was seen was 26.5K there is a 2.0 C2D model available @ 29.5K. But you Should defiantly try atleast.

I strongly recommend going in for an entry level 14" laptop and buy a 3 year extended warranty pack with it.

The best brand would be Dell, with the onsite warranty option.

Reasons:

1. 14" offers the perfect match of affordability, usable screen size and weight.

2. An entry level laptop is good enough to satiate your needs of running excel sheets and movies.

3. The forum is full of people complaining of steep costs of laptop repairs. The screens and motherboards cost nothing less than 13,000-15,000 Rupees. An extended warranty takes care of any problem for a period of 3 years. So your investment is secure.

4. Dell because they offer onsite warranty and good phone support. Their service is also very responsive.

go for a netbook ..i am using one (Aspire D150) for the last 2 years and it has got more than enough power to meet all the requirements of academic nature ( except 3d-modelling and simulations :P)
