Laptops Laptop motherboard upgrade - Is it possible?

Hi people

I own a HP dv2002tu notebook , It some 3 years old with the following config

Intel Core Solo Processor T1350 with Intel Centrino Mobile Technology (1.86GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB)

Intel 945GM Express Chipset

Is it possible to replace the motherboard with some of the one that come with the newer model to UG it to dual core ?
 
One of my frends Laptop got Kaput. It went to HP service center and those guys said that motherboard needs to be replaced. So they just changed the motherboard and retured it in working condition.
In other words yes it can be changed

Read properly :P He wants to change it to a different model, NOT the same one :)

@op: This is an inherent problem with laptops, the upgradability factor. You just wont get a board with the same design which will fit. Just get a new lappy.
 
Hmmm. I am trying to get it upgraded. HP has released several models that lookalike dv2000 . I hope one of the motherboard fits

well, you might get a similar motherboard which will fit.
but laptop motherboards are a whole lot more expensive that normal pc motherboards. plus the market is pretty much non existent, so even when you find a matching mobo, the prices will be atrocious. so most often then not, you will be better off buying a new laptop then trying to upgrade the mobo.
 
how much does a motherboard of laptop costs around? a normal one, in compaq/hp baisc laptops ...any idea?
 
well in this case , its like buying a new laptop.

Means you'll just keep the screen and the keyboard. Your wifi, sound and everything else will be replaced, ie. all is integrated on to the motherboard.

In some cases CPU also need to be replaced.

Very few people would recommend this.
 
Yeah. I love my laptop. A decent new one's gonna cost 55K+ ( I would prefer a dell XPS ). I dont mind spending 10K on the old one as long as i get to make it a dual core
