Hi..

I was wondering about the low-end Laptops that have recently infiltrated the market. One of my friend needs a laptop for "Basic" computing needs ie.
-Accessing and editing word,excel documents,
-light web-surfing,
-Minimal storage (anything above 40 gigs would be more than enough..but then again with Vista..well.. I think 100 GB should be good number)
- A "normal-sized" screen. A 12-inch screen is just not good enough. Standard 15-inch screen would be perfect.
- On the processor front, I think Atom should be more than enough.

Keeping in mind these basic requirements, can someone please suggest a particular model which falls below the price range of Rs.30000 ?

*I saw an ACER laptop which was priced at Rs. 24500 or 28000 I really can't remember the particulars. It had a 15 inch screen.. that's all I remember (If anyone knows which model this is.. please do let me know.)

Thanks :ohyeah:

Acer has two models at around the 28k-30k mark - the Aspire 4736z(Intel T4200,2GB DDR3 RAM,320GB HDD,14inch screen) and the Aspire 5536(AMD QL-64, 15inch screen, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB HDD).

AMong these two, I suggest choosing the 4736z since it has a better processor, but it also costs a bit more than the 5536(around Rs.1000 more).

yep ... acer 4736z for the while ... amazing ... see compareindia for getting price quotes of the specific regions ( might be urs )

The Aspire 4736z seems like a pretty good deal....

Also, what do you think about the TOSHIBA Satellite L310-P4010 ? It's for around 33k..

Wow. I just revisited this post by accident.

I was just wondering about how different the scene is today :ohyeah:

What do you think about the MSI Classic CR620? Looks like it would do the job for someone with absolutely basic computer needs + a bit more like occasional gaming et al.

Also, for frequent travellers looking for a lighter variant while sacrificing screen size, I think the TOSHIBA NB520 is a good bet.

Any other/better recommendations?

And I'm back again!

It is the time of year when I go out and spend some of my hard earned money on buying a new laptop for someone who needs it for BASIC media viewing/basic editing (by basic editing, I mean, cut and paste jobs as done on Audacity et al).

I am most certainly interested in what the good folks at TE think is a good laptop UNDER 30k.

Keep the following in mind, while suggesting: Basic usage, Battery life important, Durability, Build, Weight.
