The next title after Tomb Raider: Underworld seems to have a non-linear gameplay played using a fixed camera unlike previous titles incorporating RPG instances. And this time, we have co-op gameplay as well. The game supposedly does not feature any loading times!

Guardian of Light is developed by Crystal Dynamics - the same guys who brought the Legend, Anniversary and Underworld. But this, time Eidos will not be publishing the game but Square Enix - the guys behind the Final Fantasy genre. :D

We can play as Lara with the usual dual-pistols and the grappling hook or Totec, an Aztec warrior with spears. In the SP campaign, the only playable character is Lara though. Needless to say, booby-trap puzzles will be a part of the game which is usual with any game in the TR franchise.

Bit-tech has already reviewed the title and has rated it an 8 on 10.

The game is slated to release for the Xbox 360 as an XBLA download on 18th August and 28th September for the PC and PS3. Co-op gameplay will not be possible until then.

A slightly old preview here - Co-Optimus - Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light Co-Op Hands on Preview

Eagerly waiting for the title. I have always been a fan of the TR franchise having played and completed all the 9 releases by far. :P

Hah you need to have more than just skillz to play it kid. :bleh:

TBH during those days, I used to refer the walkthroughs if I used to get stuck at some point for a prolonged duration. To this day, I still recall using a walkthrough to get past some places in TR 4: The Last Revelation and TR 5: Chronicles. :)

That said, the last 3 titles from Crystal Dynamics was very easy and you should try one of them if you haven't! The puzzles are fairly easier and it is also easy to get past the bosses and levels. When Core Design used to be the developer, I recall a tougher AI, limited ammo, irritating level design etc being some of the aspects of this developer.

The only Lara Croft game I have completed religiously was Tomb Raider: Underwold. I loved this part mainly due to it's graphics and engaging puzzles. Saw the gameplay for The Guardian of Light and seems OK'ish. But anything with co-op these days is a win, almost anything.

I played The Last Revelation about 8 years ago. Maybe I was not sharp enough but I necessarily had to use a walkthrough to finish it. Not just for few instances, but for most of the later half of the game. I just assumed that all the tomb raider games were designed that way. Can someone give me a verdict on the latter games?

Not that i was getting stuck in the puzzles so i stopped playing it...i just dont like such sort of games...jumping and hanging types...just my opinion though.. :)

^Going by the developers's words, the co-op mode should be a lot fun because of the second character who is not Lara and a lot of gameplay involves the 2 characters who have to accomplish certain tasks in synchrony.

I haven't played a co-op title online yet. :ashamed:

I loved all the previous three releases and completed them They actually made me a fan of the series.what i liked the most was the locations and the story. The puzzling of course was great too.

But if the camera angle is fixed here then i think i'll have to miss this one.

Like I mentioned before, the last 3 titles brought out by Crystal Dynamics were very good. I particularly liked Anniversary - it was essentially the very first Tomb Raider with the very same locations, the very same boss but the redesign was perfect in every sense. I liked the game because it brought back some good memories of the original Tomb Raider and my school days when I used to have a puny HP Pavilion desktop, I played the game on. IMO you should try any of those 3 titles and judge for yourself. :)

The last revelation was hard indeed. I had initially tried the demo bundled with the chip CD and liked it a lot and opted for the game and turned out to be real hard.

Ah, thanks! Won't let me rep.

I was offered the whole collection for dirt cheap, guess I'll take up that offer.

Gotta agree, I've played only the last three games of the series and totally loved them. Had tried Angel of Darkness once and that was horrible. But, Guardian of Light isnt really being marketed as a Tomb Raider game per se. Its probably going to be more of a spinoff series. At present it just an experiment at best. From what I've read its going priced low, around 20$ and will be download only. There are a lot of DLCs planned.

Also, gameplay looks more like Tomb Raider style puzzle solving with controls similar to Alien Swarm.

Nevertheless, not gonna miss this one. But cant wait for the real Tomb Raider.

I am looking forward to this game! But damn, MS just wont let buy points from their website. I think its due to RBI's guidelines.

Any other source to procure MS points online?
