T-Mobile G2x (a.k.a. LG Optimus 2X) overclocked to 1.5GHz scores 4570 in Quadrant

A week ago we saw a Galaxy S II reach 1.5GHz though the G2x manages to beat its score at some benchmarks.

The T-Mobile G2x was running CyanogenMod 7 with a custom kernel – the Trinity CM7 EXT4 1.5GHz kernel. It posted a whopping 4570 score on Quadrant, while on stock frequencies (1GHz) it only does around 2400. The switch to EXT4 probably contributes a good portion of that sizable increase though, it’s not just the CPU.
Others using the same kernel have reported Linpack scores of 54 – up from the 36.85 we got from our Optimus 2X at stock speed. That’s major improvement in pure CPU performance.

The Galaxy S II results from last week – the ones that had the phone running at 1.5GHz – pushed the Quadrant score to 4062 up from 3467 at default 1.2GHz speed (Note: the S II is using EXT4, it’s the default for Gingerbread). Going to the CPU-only Linpack benchmark, the Galaxy S II was ahead with a score of 59.

sweet eh.

exynos is being given too much fame for nothing extra ordinary. tegra2 has been around for a while n still potential competitor. although both shall be knocked by adreno 220 .. lets hope it does.. else we will not see better pricing

Not really.

Clock / clock, exynos is faster at productivity and faster in OpenGL ES benchamarks than Tegra 2.

Hell it will remain faster than sensation as well for day to day use.

SGS 2 Quadrant benchmarks should be taken with bucket of salt. This phone is capped at 60 FPS, so regardless how much you clock it, your 3d and 2D scores wont go up much as this phone is hitting its FPS cap in almost all Quadrant tests at its stock speed. So even clocking it at 1.5Ghz wont show significant increase.

Optimus 2X is uncapped.

sensation cores are based on A8 cores while tegra and exynos use A9. Some authors believe that will lead to comparatively higher battery consumption with poorer performance. Morever as the trend is in international markets sensation is being priced over and above sgs2 and 2x. Seeing how big a name samsung is in India I doubt sensation will do well in the market, and that too if htc actually launch it here, which may never happen.

Nah, Sensation is coming here. Its been already confirmed by HTC. It is suppose to be one of the first global concurrent launch this time around with it being scheduled to launch here at the same time it does everywhere else. Retail availability in stores is expected to be early july or even end of june.

Also it is priced higher than O2x but same / slightly cheaper than SGS2.

But as you said, its kind of a mismatch at hardware level. Competent GPU core is coupled with 1 generation old cores.

Dont care about silly benchmarks, Sensation with it's qHD 16"9 screen, stereo audio + video recording, and lastly, the lovely new sense ui 4.0, I'm game man.

Its Sense UI 3.0 BTW.

The main issue with sensation will be developer support. Its confirmed that it will have signed / locked bootloader. That is the HUGE deal breaker for many HTC loyals including me.

Other problem with be battery life. It has just 1520mAH battery on the phone that is shipping with 4.3inch LCD and dual core A8.

^^HTC have always shipped with signed/locked bootloaders! G2 (Desire Z) / DHD etc. all were locked! But I believe HTC is not as good as Motorola when it comes to this and the bootloaders on HTC phones always get cracked/unlocked within months of release! Motorola actually encrypts the bootloader but HTC does not and I am pretty sure Sensations bootloader too would be unlocked very soon!

Well, yeah. its the case since Desire actually but 2 critical things have changed.

Previously there were ENG SPL / HBoot leaks of those devices which allowed devs to flash the device with ENG SPL and then proceed to Radio S-OFF and other things.

Sensation bootloader is also simply EMMC write protect locked. But it wont be able to exploit the loophole of previous HTC handsets like thunderbolt which shipped with older Radios.

In the recent HTC radios, GPIO_RST is not allowed. And there is no ENG SPL leak. So lets see what happens. HTC has clamped down heavily in last few months on devs which is actually pissing off lot of big names in Dev scene.

Hell even devs said that they got lucky with older radio of Thunderbold and they basically have not found any exploit in HTC's recent implementation. And there is nothing in near future that will make it happen.

So basically HTC have closed all known exploits and loopholes and finding new one has so far been unsuccessful.

Sent magically from thin air!
