I want the most lightweight Linux distro for installing on a pendrive.
Requirements :
Local web server with PHP,MySql ,PHPmyadmin. any texteditor & some basic tools.

How lightweight the install becomes depends on what packages you choose.
If you want a live CD then I'd suggest CentOS. It isn't the most modern desktop but it's one of the cleanest. It's perfect for use as a server/workstation.
Otherwise you could use Mint Linux. It's Debian based, and light and easy.

You'll have to install PHPmyAdmin manually though, but it's just a matter of unzipping a directory.

If you just want a LAMP server, then instead of installing L(linux) A(apache) M(mysql) P(php), you could try using WAMP (Windows AMP).
I use Uniserver, and it's fast and does everything my Linux box does.

I am not planning to install a full OS from a live CD. Something like a Minimal Install + Openbox + nginx or lighttpd + some text editor + Music Player. That is my list.

Isn't that a full install?

Download the centos minimal iso (290MB) and then download the apps you want if you don't want to download the live cd.

But I don't think the minimal iso will come with x-server.

If you want to keep your install light, then just choose the packages you want while installing. You'll have to download nginx and openbox separately anyway.

btw, in Linux a minimal install means console mode only.

I used PCLinuxOS and SLAX sometime back. I hear that PCLinuxOS is still alive and strong. Not sure of SLAX though.
