Hi friends,

I have never worked on Linux OS and hv always used Win XP and now i have switched to Windows7.

Sometime back one of my friend gave me Utunbu 9.10 which i installed on my PC by formatting my Win XP.

But the problem came when i saw that my pc was not booting in Dual configration with Linux and Win7 .

Pls help me to change the boot settings and tell me the way how to use the boot menu correctly.

Secondly, i hv just come to know that there are many free OS like Linux, Mac etc. As my PC is used mostly for gaming & seeing videos by my kids and myself, please tell me which OS is the best for my kids (Age 12 yrs).

Regards

Hi,
your question isn't clear.
1) Does Win7 does boot?
2) Or Ubuntu does not boot?

If latter, then the grub bootloader must have been overwritten by Windows 7 when you installed. now you need to restore grub.Reinstall Ubuntu Grub Bootloader After Windows Wipes it Out - How-To Geek

Also, this reading this might be good idea:

* Linux is Free, but Mac OS isn't
* Try Welcome to Edubuntu! | edubuntu

As i don't know much about DOS, is there a software which can do the above for me prety simply.

Hmm..You can try Super Grub Disk, which restores you grub automatically

Recovery Using the Unofficial "Super Grub Disk"

From within Windows

Download Auto Super Grub Disk

Double-click auto_super_grub_disk_1.7 icon, install it, and reboot.

On the next boot, select the UNetbootin-supergrubdisk menu entry; this will launch the Auto Super Grub Disk.

Do nothing till you see your Grub menu again.

Next time you boot Windows, click yes when asked to remove UNetbootin-supergrubdisk to remove the Super Grub Disk menu entry.

As a standalone cd/floppy/usb

Download Super Grub Disk

Burn into a cdrom (better) or a floppy

Boot from it

Select: GRUB => MBR & !LINUX! (>2) MANUAL |8-)

Select the Linux or Grub installation you want to restore.

You see the message: SGD has done it!

Reboot

You're done.

Not much games are available for Linux. So, for gaming Linux will not be a good experience. My son dislikes Linux specially for this reason.

no rohit they are two "separate OS" so you should install them on their own separate partitions really.

if you want "educational" stuff for kids try edubuntu... if you just want games for your kid(s) then go for fedora games spin :)

Can anybody give me the direct CD link for downloading Fedora Spins and Edubuntu 9.10 (both OS links for CD - direct download) and a software which can install it without any problem and do everything automatically.
