I am posting this delibrately in chatterbits.
I am sify broadband user.
My cable operator knows me very well. I got sify connection roughly 8 months ago.
I usually renew online through sify mall and my cable operator is cool with that.
The 256K connection costs Rs.795. Thats the MRP of this package. And sometimes when i cannot use my Credit card i tell my cable operator to get me renewal.
Now here at dahisar mumbai area, "Sairam" is in charge of distributing sify and pacenet connections.
Now the funny thing is here the same package is offered to user for Rs.1200 and not at MRP price of 750.
I didnt argue much and kept renewing online till this month when the twist came.
My connection was about to expired and as my credit card was full with some purchases i asked my cable operator to get me renewal.
The guys at sairam told me that they wont renew my connection, not only that the guys there asked me to pay up Rs.3175 for the 9 renewals i have purchased online, this money is supposed to be his comission and otherwise he will cut my connection.
Now there is no way i was gona pay that much, i said him straight forword on face i am not paying and i am again renewing connection online. And if he cuts my connection we will meet in the consumer court.
then i was greated to our gunda raj type language to payup otherwise blah blah blah.
I said i am not paying and if you think this is going away quietly then he is mistaken. Fortunately i had some sense to turn on the voice recording software on my mobile and the conversation is recorded.

I have mailed sify ( their CEO, customer service, PRO and ER officers.).
Lets see what they have to say.

Money is not an issue, if MRP was 1200 i would have paid 1200. And this i am not leaving. This will go to whatever stage needed. Someone has to speak, others are afraid, i am not. Lets see what happens :P

I came home took the print out of sify website and delivered that to them and came back home and said now do what you wana do and i will see what i am gona do. And if he cuts my connection i will file complain against them in consumer court, in press and also in local police station.
I renewed my connection online and so far i am yet to here any word from him :P
The thing that striked me is that i am the first one in my area to stand against these guys. Noone else bothered about checking even the official price. I contacted few people and they were not even aware that they were charged more than MRP :S

****ING STUPID MORONS ... JUST LIKE THIS MY CABLE GOT STOPPED WELL AND GOOD I STOPPED THEIR BUSINESS IN THIS TOWN ONLY.

wont matter...i tried to do the same...i was given a straight reply by spectranet...ISP's can charge any amount as maintanance charges..
 
Well thats different, these guys are not selling internet with their own name like some others do by borrowing bandwidth. They can charge whatever they want if they are not selling it under the name of ISP like SIFY.

Here they are selling SIFY ISP recharge packages at higher prices and asking customers who purchased online to pay them money.

Its not about the money. Its the way they are asking it.

Lets see, i am not gona give in. Thanks to my family members i have some preety heavy weight influances with local authorities, sify and even at sairam. I will use them if nacessary.

First try like normal consumer, and then show them some blues if needed :P

i say that nw u did it .. we all shd be goin against all the service providers who hv been cheatin on the consumers.. be it McD/KFC/Pizza Hut who sell things beyond the MRP ..

About time we all did smthin abt all this ..

Do keep us all updated abt the outcomes.. we are all ears and eyes..
 
^ High time someone takes on those Cablewalla's, the ISP's and MSO's have a habit of passing on the buck to the local cablewalla pleading either ignorance or helplessness :(

This is what i call Monopoly at it's best. Lets gang up and loot the customer.

Hope it works for you Funky - the cablewalla is doing all the drama just to make you pay 1200rs/pm from now on. Lets wait and watch - keep us posted ;)

BTW : As per some gov AD - MRP is just maximum suggested retail price - they can give it you cheaper but cannot charge you more than that :D Bargain you must, even on MRP - according to the AD :)
 
Go go funky, take their case. Even Pacenet is acting smart these days. They have been busy packet shaping and throttling BT speeds these days. Now only if we had more alternatives, we could somehow finish the monopoly they enjoy right now............

Like a fool ave been paying 950 to them all this time for the same connection that you have Funky (256 Kbps,150MB/day limit, 10 PM-8 AM unlimited).

They tell me that the MRP is 895 and 55 rupees is the service charge and they take a bill of the service charge of 55 rupees too!!!Crap that, am gonna call the Sify Customercare and ask them the exact prices and this Service Charge $hit.AM such a moron, I didnt renew my connection online even a single time :(.

funky the cable wala can charge you a small ""service change"" they are the ones providing you with the cabling and bringing the net to your door. ;)
sify is only providing the internet but the cable wala is proving you with the cabling and also maintainging it with something goes wrong. :P
I faced this problem when I had cable connection. I used to pay the ISP internet charges and every month the cable wala would change 150 as a so called ""service charge"" . ^o
 
Yeah I am also using Sify. I am charged Rs. 50 as maintenance charges. I feel thats justified. Because the cable guy has to keep some guys with himself in case any of any disruption. But charging close to 300Rs. is plainly looting.
 
anupam just so u know...Sify does pay them for doing this service....if you can get the people in ur area to boycott paying the service/maintanance charges...he cant do anything....thts wht me and my friends did here :P
 
go ahead funky nail them nice 'n' hard those people need some hard explaination.... lol tht bloody sopnain he gave me the same list in the start but excluding the 256K unlimited connection and bugged me for 4 days saying take sify connection, i told him FO...
 
Guys i would gladly pay Rs.50 as service charge if they said its service charge and give me receipt for that.

But look at the charge sheet, this is simply cheating. Charging 50% more than MRP.

Sify provides the technical support to these guys and they are paid from sify. I have confirmed that. Also on the renewal, when you renew the account from your local cablewala, he is getting his profit out of that too.

If user is supposed to pay some extra charge it should be put in declaimer. I will par Rs.50, thats not issue. but not when i am not suppose to pay, and definitely not 50% more than the actiual MRP.

These guys are the same guys who run cable TV network and this behaviour is because they are used to earn big bucks. With internet account they cant actiually hide the customer numbers like they can with cable TV ;) So they intend to make more money this way by cheating customers.

Today i called up sify customer care and informed about this on phone just for sake of it. First i made sure that i am only suppose to pay Rs.795 on telephone and then i told them what is going on. Got the complain number too. Lets see.

Usually sify responds to their mails in 2-3 working days. So i will wait couple of more days for response to my mails.
 
File an online complaint with Consumer Coordination Council (which is supported by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs) @ http://www.corecentre.org/guest/complaint .

Someone from their legal department will contact both the parties. Won't cost you anything, will show him you mean business. I will be a happy man once DTH closes the business of these lumps of shit.

I've succesfully contested a consumer complaint against a Sify 'distributor'; if you need any help, let me know.

if that is right then 850 is itself high. I have been using this connections for more than 7-8 months and the cost is 545. the guy who gives connection charges 100 for maintenance but 2 of us have connection in my house and so its just 50 bucks per head. And the customer care has been excellent and wud gladly accept 100 maintenance...

Where are you located?

Please note that in mumbai pricing is different than other cities.

This package costs Rs.895 in other cities so your cablewala may not be fooling you. ;)

Its not about what ISP is best. Its about the consumer rights and transparancy in pricing. ;)

And Airtel is simply not option here. Its not available in this area, only Sify and Pacenet.
