I am currently using the Logitech Z5500 Digital, and my friend is using the Z5300. The Z5500 is superior in terms of power, interface, ergonomics and asthetics appeal. The Z5500 scores with the optical cable handsdown. Make sure you have a optical toslink jack connection in your motherboard or soundcard before buying or else suffer 25-30% sound loss using normal stereo pin connectors.

Chaos is one of TE's l33t resident audiophiles...:P

No offense meant, but u shud have checked his siggy...he certainly can do without a Z5500...
My Rig: E6600 @3.6 24/7, P5N32-E SLI, 2GB Cellshock PC2-8000 4-4-4 , 2x 8800 Ultra SLI, 1.85TB storage, TT 1200W, XFi Platinum into Citypulse DA7.2x DAC, NAD C320BEE+Jamo E855, Sennheiser HD650, Stacker 830, Dell 2005FPW, XBOX 360 Controller, Logitech Momo, Razer DA+5L

No offense again but:-

Dude,every1 cannot go Professional grade, nor have the time or aptitude to be an Audiphile!
Now just as u have a NAD C320BEE+Jamo E855, u can't criticise everything of lesser domination as CRAP!,just 2 say there are ppl with much better pro-grade systems than yours, who might see ur audio system in the same light!

Ryan give the kid a break... no hard feelings. He's just ignorant about what really is good sound. If he's around on TE, he'll learn sooner or later.

exactly.......THX certification just means that equipment quality is guaranteed but it really doesn't means that equipment would sound like charm ....he he consider z2300:no:

it is very simple as a thumb rule for music passionates .......start with AL MX5021 or klipsh (non GMX) 2.1 & then when u mature move on to passive spks & amps :hap2: :hap2:

he he .....for all those people who think digital connection with z-5500d's decoder is better than analog connection with a good soundcard ........

Product Review - Logitech Z-5500 5.1 THX® Certified Speaker System

now i wonder what are professional AKM ADC & DAC in better soundcards all about...:bleh: :bleh:

Telling this from my own experience.... The Toslink cable makes the sound cleaner... but the analog cables provide more bass in the same setup. All in all I would say its a 10% gain with Toslink. Having said that if you dont have an audio card that can do dd live or dts encoding over SPDIF, which Creative cards dont, in this scenario, analog seems to be a better option. Thankfully my card can encode dts over toslink there I dont face this issue. Needless to say a single wire saves the clutter!

thanks vivekbabbudelhi for ur input let the guy know the difference bte performance speakers and those crappy multimedia speakers

One n00b question here:huh:

Does DD live or DTS connect really help in improving sound quality or they are just another marketing gimmick like “up-scaling DVD players which can up-scale a SD content to a 1080p over HDMIâ€â€¦â€¦â€¦:S :S

If a 128kbps compressed track is encoded into a dts stream for external decoder then would it really sound better…..or it would be something like compiling an audio cd from 128kbps MP3’s:S :S

IMO DD live or DTS connect just change signal format & shouldn’t really contribute to quality of audio for music. They may induce better surround but even that can be achieved over analog with software like power dvd ……..
Anyone plz. rectify ….. :S

^^ Ok here is my experience switching from Creative Audigy 4 to Bluegears Inspirer (which does DTS connect and DD Live). Based on my experience, Creative was bass heavy, but was not so good to play a range of sounds. The bass used to overpower the background tracks in a movie. Watching Black Hawk Down on a Creative and Bluegear was a totally different experience. With Bluegear I heard things that were simply submerged with the Creative behind the bass.
For special effects, games, etc. Creative won hands down due to bass heavy nature and EAX support.
For music, movies in general Bluegear litteraly blows away the audigy 4 card from creative, but for games its limited to EAX2.

Coming back to DD Live and DTS Connect. I used to use AC3 Encoder to convert my 2 stream audio into 5.1 output using my creative's analog cables. It was a good setup, but of course not perfect. Ideally front speakers should have only voice and rear should have effects like clapping music etc. But using software like PowerDVD or AC3 to upscale 2 channel audio to 5.1, there was always a singal leak. In other words some sound that was supposed to come from front speakers in a true Dolby environment used to come from my rear speakers in a muffled way.
With DD Live and DTS Connect on my Bluegear. I was firstly able to get rid of the wire clutter, and scale to a single wire from 3 wires. Secondly the Toslink cable provides for a cleaner sound output when compared to the analog counterpart. Lastly using DD Live or DTS connect, the final sound output was much cleaner than a Creative's software based upscaling and there was no singal leak. From my own experience, the Bluegear setup beats the Creative setup hands down as far as audio quality is concerned!
