Overview of MX engine

MX Technology: Unparalleled power, precision, and performance

The Logitech MXâ„¢ Optical Engine, featured in our three new mice, is a huge leap forward in optical power, precision, and performance. Read on to learn more about this exciting new technology.

Image Processing Power
The MX Optical Engine captures 4.7 megapixels of information per second, more than 60% more than other leading mice. Why is that significant? Because when more image data is captured and analyzed each second, more data is available to determine motion... increasing the mouse's ability to track on difficult surfaces or during quick movements.

Sensor Size
A mouse's sensor needs to “see†small surface details to track motion. The more detail captured within each image, the more data will be available for calculating movement. The MX Optical Engine captures images that are over 80% larger than those from other sensors on the market today. This contributes to the smooth, fluid tracking on traditionally difficult surfaces, such as wood desktops or other surfaces with repetitive patterns.

The Optical Path
Another fundamental factor that determines how well an optical mouse performs is the quality of the images it captures. Since the lens is just a fraction of an inch above the tracking surface, and the actual size of the images is very small, even slight variations in manufacturing tolerances can result in blurry images which seriously degrade tracking quality.

Logitech designed a proprietary new lens for the MX Optical Engine that improves the depth of field. The result: more details are captured in each image with greater clarity .

Software Intelligence

Optical sensors must employ sophisticated software to analyze the incoming images and determine motion. The intelligence of the software affects performance immensely, especially when the mouse is used on difficult surfaces or pushed to its limits.

The proprietary software used in the MX Optical Engine incorporates years of extensive research and testing, and contributes to the outstanding performance on surfaces that traditionally pose problems for other optical mice.

[BREAK=Intro]

Logitech is becoming more and more well-known for their great input devices, such as keyboards and mice.

mx310 with the much-coveted MX optical engine, an attractive mouse for gamers at an even more attractive price. The MX310 is basically Logitech's MX300 mouse with a few improvements. Like the MX300, it's a corded USB mouse (it does include a PS/2 converter for those of you without a free USB port).

Enough talk, let's get on to the fun part...

[BREAK=Installation]

There's pretty much nothing for me to say about installation of the MX310 mouse. Plug it in to the nearest available USB port or hub and you're good to go; Windows installs its default drivers in about 5 seconds. If you're using a PS/2 port, use the included USB to PS/2 converter, shut off your computer, and plug it in like you would any mouse. From there you can install the included Logitech software if you want.

The Logitech MX310 has a design that slightly resembles the MX500/700 series as opposed to the MX300, which was closer to resembling Logitech's older, non-MX mice. It has a scroll wheel which doubles as a third mouse button, as well as an application switching button right under the scroll wheel and an app switch button.

Also note how it is symmetrical unlike the MX500/700. This means that it caters to both right-handed and left-handed users (I'm right-handed myself). The MX500/700 mice are not as comfortable for left-handed users as they are for those of us who are right-handed, so the MX310 is especially great for those who are left-handed.:hap2:

The MX310 has the back and forward buttons on opposite sides, which I think is a design improvement over even the MX500/700, let alone the MX300 which lacked these buttons to begin with. Since the mind would naturally assume forward would be on the right and back on the left, that's exactly how the MX310 is arranged. The MX310 is surprisingly feature-packed; in fact, the only MX500/700 feature absent on the MX310 is the set of up and down scroll arrows (it, of course, does have a scroll wheel), which isn't really a huge loss:P

[BREAK=Feel]

The mouse itself is very comfortable in the hand, and is clearly designed for ergonomics. The indentations on each side of the mouse are for your thumb (Depends if you are left or right handed) and it was a very natural fit for my hand. As for movement and accuracy, I experienced no issues whatsoever and much like the other MX mice, it moves in a very smooth and fluid motion.

After gaming on this mouse for an hour or two, I could tell that this mouse was built for gaming. While I didn't attempt to reprogram the buttons for gaming (yet), it's definitely a lot more comfortable than my original Logitech optical.

[BREAK=Conclusion]

A very feature-packed and ergonomical mouse that doesn't break the bank.;)
Feels comfy n one can easily get adjusted to the grip.

Pros

Feature-packed.
Priced well (450-500 INR)
Has the MX Optical Sensor.
Suitable for both left and right handed
great performance especially for UT and Quake games..wherin agility needed.

Cons

Rare nowadays.

I did start a GO for dis which unfortunately has been halted....still hunting down the dealer who took all my pieces:@

the DPI doesnot matter, its acutally the quality of the sensor that matters

DPI is more of a marketting gimmick
