well go look in the grey market they have most of the sony universal remotes.also a great value.features mentioned in the website says it can control a cable set top box.anyways there are some models that have learning capability.

^ +1. Always go in for a learning remote. That way it wont get obsolete when you upgrade your stuff as well.

Chaos, he really does not need the harmony...

Any learning remote, as long as it is not a touch screen based one (You don't want to look at the remote to change channels or volume, do you?) and has a learning function (i.e. the ability to understand and store a signal via pointing the old remote at it and pressing the button you need to map) will do the trick

Once you are used to the mapping you have done on the remote, there really wouldnt be any discernible difference between a $200 remote and a $25 one

The only exception would be remotes like the gyration remote which have a far better implementation to handle a mouse on a PC vs. cursor key based mouse handling which you will have to use with other learning remotes..but sibnce you don't intend to use the remote for your PC anyway, you don't have to worry about this part

This should give you an idea what you should be looking for

DealExtreme: $24.29 Learning Universal Remote Controller with Air Conditioner Controls

And this is what you should not be looking for

DealExtreme: $5.95 Universal TV/DVD/VCD Remote Controller
