well if u are going to view at 14 feet then 1080p wont matter, and just for the info at 25 feet it wont matter if its a 480p tv.since as the viewing distance increases the human eye cant tell the difference,if by chance u sit closer then u would benefit from higher resolution tvs,u can see the images clearly at closer distance, meaning u can see the details of the tatoo on Angelina Jolie .

haha.. by 14 feet, i meant the max distance. the length of my room is 14.5 feet. the tv and bed are on opposite walls. most of the times, i will watch tv from my bed.

On lg tv the black colour is not that black as compared to samsung/sony.

i bought samsung 610 series recently...650 is good idea but did not have moolah

had a look at 3 full hd lgs online as follows:

42LG60FR MRP 78000 (scarlet)
42LG80FR MRP 83000 (jazz)
42LG70YR MRP 150000 lol

being realistic, the 3rd option is out of the question.

between the scarlet and jazz, the scarlet has 3 hdmi ports wheras the jazz compromises on one hdmi for a usb which i dont need. on the upside, the jazz has 10w+10w+30w sound with retractable speakers whereas the scarlet has 10w+10w. then again, i have a jamo home theater system.

assuming that the discount will brinb them down to my budget, are they worth looking at?

regarding the 3rd option, i have a few questions. even though its not in my budget, i noticed a few things which im curioues about. how much difference will that 100hz panel with 2.7ms response time (in cinema mode) make? in normal mode, its 4ms like the other 2. apart from that, it has 3hdmi+1usb which doesnt matter to me? so does that panel with lower response time justify that price tag?

LG 42LG80FR (42-inch LCD) has excellent reviews
LG 42LG80FR (42-inch LCD) Video Review - TVs - CNET Asia

I have seen it in action with friend- it is a good LCD for the price

well unless u look at the lcds side by side playing your own media, no amount of posts can help you, first get a demo and see what you like and then we can say if its good spec wise or not :)

will do that only. went to the great india mall in noida. was quite disappointed. nobody there to really help. the salesperson was technically handicapped. most screens were showing different videos and were placed far apart. so, didnt really get to see a proper side-by-side comparison.

take your own media, take a laptop along with some hd movies/clips both 720p, 1080p and normal dvd/dvd rips, thats the only way to get a proper comparison and make sure u tweak the setting on the lcd, u dont wanna compare an lcd whose brightness is turned to say 20 to a one whose brightness level is set to 100

great, but since ure looking for full hd tv, id advice you to download some full hd media as well, the quicktime website and windows media website have some, so u can download those

ive started considering a 720p panel too now. coming to the panasonic plasma - 42pv8d, the specs say 1024 x 720p. isnt 720p supposed to be 1280 x 720p?

Even I've been quite eager to know why is the panasonic plasma called HD if it cannot get the minimum amount of pixels on screen for a 720p panel. someone please enlighten us

well yes 720p has a resolution of 1280x720p,plasmas dont come with that resolution they come in 1024x768 which is actually a 4:3 resolution.they down scale a 720p content to fill the screen.i realy have no idea of as to why they call plasma HD ready in a way its cheating ,offcouse expensive plasma have FHD capability.

and didnt u say u might buy a PS3 in which case LCD will be a better choice.
for SD content the panasonic plasma will have a edge.the panasonic plasma has a ANSI contrast just shy of 1000 where as the lcds from sony and samsung have a contrast upwards of 2000 around 2300 for the sony V series.
and if u look at reviews the panasonic plasma ghosting or image trail is still more then lcds like LG 70 series, sony W,V etc, samsung etc
