I am looking for a phone in the 10k to 13k price range.

So far Nokia 5230 and Nokia 6600i are the ones I found interesting.

The 5230 i like the symbian OS as for the 6600i , it just looks good and nothing more.

Any other suggestions from someone in the know of current cell phone scenario are very much appreciated.

The phone will be used for mostly calls , using apps for time management etc and some casual gaming and music consumption. Not really interested in browsing on the phone.

Thinking of buying next weekend.

PS - budget can be stretched to 15k for the right balance of features and cost.

Without really knowing what you plan to use the phone for, nobody can give you accurate advice. There are tons of decent phones in the 10-15k bracket - 5800XM (touch screen+music), N79 (decent candybar), E63 (QWERTY messaging), 8520 (BB messaging) etc. Personally though, I'd go with a BB (that's just me) or an HTC Tattoo. The only glaring problem with the Tattoo is the lack of 3G, something that HTC India is known to do with it's range of handsets.

The 5230 is a low end S60v5 phone and the 6600i is a dumb phone, so you probably want to skip those.

if your budget is 13k & you like 5230 then why not get a 5800XM for that price..

it has Wi-Fi which 5230 doesn't have & a 3.2MP Camera rather than 2MP..

with it's recent FW Update it has Kinetic Scrolling as well..

Added the relevant part in first post.

How is E52 ?

Features and looks wise it looks good.

if u're going for multimedia features then better go for the 5800 Xm which by the way has got quite a good fan following here at TE

Be sure to try out an E52 extensively before you buy one. Nokia's designers made the stupid mistake of having white legends on a light grey phone which make it a little difficult to see the buttons in some lighting conditions. On the other hand, it's cousin - the E55 doesn't suffer from this peculiar issue.

The phone's great though. I had borrowed an E55 for a week and that was a gem of a phone so an E52 should be in the same category with a price that's cheaper than the E55. The only problem for me was the smallness of it all. My hands and fingers are on the larger side so I found it a bit cumbersome during overall usability as compared to say, an E71/E72.

^ I will give it a try as i too have big fingers.

There is a diff in keypads of E52 & E55. E52 is Alphanumeric and E55 is Half Qwerty.

Otherwise both phones have similar form factor.

Will try my friends 5800XM too.

Love the E52. Dad has it. 13k in Heera Panna. Be aware that it's a grey market piece - Nokia, in their infinite wisdom, have not officially imported it in to India.

if you want a business phone nothing beats the e63 (10k) or the e71 (in case you increase your budget by 1-2k).

for normal usage the 5800 XM is very good and the new firmware has made the phone rocking.

Stay away from Corby's - its a personal take. You can look at HTC too.

But for the sheer support of apps and games I would say stick with nokia. Its a matter of personal taste for you between the e71/e63 and Nokia 5800. Also you can look at 5230 too.

A new E71 certainly doesn't cost anywhere close to 12k.

^ E71 is definitely above 13k

Didn't know that E52 was grey market only.

Nokia is what I am looking for as I like the symbian OS and have already collected some apps and games for it.

LG & Samsung are not in the running as I am not comfortable with the brands.

So the final two pieces in running are 5800XM & E55/E52.

5230 is out as I was told that touch experience in sub 10k phones leaves a lot to desire.

Will be going to Croma & Nokia gallery tomorrow to get a feel of the phones and will purchase next weekend from Alpha (with bill).

Thanks for ur inputs guys.:hap2:

How is the Touch 2 from HTC ?

N79 will fit in your budget is an extremely good phone. I've been using it for 6+ months.

Did you know that Nokia aren't the only firm to manufacture phones based on S60? :)

E55 = dual alphabets on a single key, a little difficult to get the hang of, plus you rely on the software logic to do a lot of things. Even though I have owned a half QWERTY P1i in the past, I found the phone to be a bit clumsy for typing out quickly. Not recommended.

E52 - white key legends on a metallic grey background. Check if you're comfortable using that.

5800XM - good all around VFM. Camera sucks though.

That is a load of BS. 5230's interface and "touch experience" is the same as in the 5800XM, if not better.

How is the Touch 2 from HTC ?

Overly expensive for what it offers. QVGA screen in a WinMo phone is a real let down and may restrict the choice of WinMo apps available to the user.

Got the E63 for Rs. 9990 with BH-213 bluetooth headset free.

Seems Nokia dropped price for it.

Thanks for ur suggestions guys.
