Need an HT. Been using my Altec Lansing MX5021 for a long time now. Checked and checked and someone suggested to get Onkyo HT-S5400. Is it a good choice? Or there are better options available at the price point? Please suggest.

Its a good option if you plan to upgrade the sub at some point. Else the 3400 is a sweet deal. You can also look at the 5405 which is 5.1 instead of 7.1(5400). Both have Hd audio decoding and are 3d capable afaik.

Mind you the subwoofers and in general the speakers that come with these are not so great. In fact the 3400s passive sub sounds a wee bit better too, ymmv.

Had been to a local audio store.

Ebay price for S5400 = 49k

Local price = 63k.

The crap is going on

He was quoting 40k+ for the 3400 as well.

@Pinki- Which shop did you try. Try the Sound Factor on MG Road and there is something else too in Kalyani Nagar. YGPM

+1 To Sound Factor. Talk to Sighai over there, (A dude with oriental features), he knows the stuff well, will let you audition to your hearts content and you can negotiate with him as well.

Good lord, thats too expensive for an HTIB. The 5400 likes can be bought in the middle east for the equivalent of 22k INR.

AFAIK, even in India the 3400 could be had for 23k.
