Storage Solutions looking to buy a 500gb to 1TB external

hi guys
i m looking to buy a 500gb to 1TB external
i have a 160GB internal hard disk,with all these d/l my hard disk is almost full, i have even placed 50 GB in office HD
so instead of expanding my internals, i think getting an external would be better option

any suggestions on
1. Brand
2. Price
3. Place in mumbai to buy the same
(Lamington is closed on sundays and I one have sunday off :'( )
 
2 routes to go:

1. Branded External HDD. WD 500GB Mybook - 5.2-5.4k. If i'm not wrong (but that's on Lamington)

2. Buy a 750GB HDD and get a casing for it. WD 750GB - 6650 + Rs.850 for a classy SATA casing - 7,500 for 750GB. WD 1TB - 9,600 + 850.

why do you want to go for External?

It will be useful only for data storage... U can't run higher application from it.

Best way go for internal SATA with HDD case.

what classy sata case for 850rs?
 
Well, it ain't exactly an awesome aluminium case or anything, I tried for those. :) But it's a bit better than the usual Zippys. Will take snaps tomorrow and post em here.

am planning to pickup the 750gb wd home or studio hdd myself. it has esata, usb & firewire. lemme know if ur interested so maybe we can get better rates.

i got a quote for wd home 500gb for Rs.6650 & wd home 750gb for Rs.8900. both have usb2.0, firewire & esata ports.

well one of my friend is headed to lamington some time this week to buy 1TB HD.

lets see what price he is able to get

Even i'm planning to buy a 500Gigger n hav told Saiyan to get me good rates..

The WDhome doesn get really appreciable reviews apparently n moreover I dont think all of us mite buy an esata cable to make good use of the posrt..

Else the WDessential is good enuf fer <5k..

Jus let us know the prices..
 
im too looking for a sweet deal on a 500gb of 750gb branded external , which one is the one to sugest for , maybe a go is needed since so many people are interested in this.
 
well i just picked up a wd my book essential 500 gb for 4.6k from ce (@ np).

Got the qoutes for 750gb & 1tb as well but this had the least cost/gb.

750 gb he qouted 8k and for the 1tb he qouted 12.5k (i know .. even i was like wtf, thats massively exorbitant.!!)
