Today I installed the new WD 640 hdd received from Lynx.During the installation I cleaned the cpu and when switched on the pc strange sound is coming. The sound is from either - the cpu fan, smps fan,gfx card fan. My first doubt is on the cpu fan. what to do ? Do I need to remove the cpu and clean it ? I have never removed the cpu fan so far and no experience in this . please help

If no sound was dere before u did whatever today, the probably its not that the fans have gone bad.
Probably, its some stray piece of wire messing up with some fan. Check for stray cables.
Apart from this, just blow into all the fans just in case something has stuck by or rather use a baloon blower. :P

And then its gonna work for sure...:hap2:

after my last post , my pc keep shutdowning for 2-3 times. then I read your post - I kept my cpu upside down and use the brush to clean the cpu fan..after that pc is working fine and I feel that it become bit noisier or I may become bit noise-a-maniac

Well, if the whooshing sound is during bootup only, then probably that sound is from ur CPU Fan blowing at full throttle. But once Cool & Quiet(or alternatives) kicks in, the fans spins down and the noise don't come anymore.

If it is coming continuously, then the fan is probably touching some surface or the fan is not a good one. BTW, which CPU Cooler u have and which fans?

yeah its comes down later.

stock cooler and fan - have not oced yet..but will do it soon - i am recently bitten by poisonous oc bug :ohyeah: - but bit scared to do that

I think the stock cooler does make a lot of sound when it starts and hence the whoosh. Even my CCF does sound noisy when booting. It's just fine.
May be u need some sound insulation in ur cabby or just get over it as ceiling fan noise...:P

will ignore the sound as the beauty of artificial nature :fleur:

Yes the stock fans on the 3000+ are prone to run up to very high rpms at startup and then they come down as soon as the bios values for cooling kick in. I have the same thing happening in one of my office computers. Its quite normal and irritating.

i+, yet another victim,,welcome to the "3000-whoose" club:ohyeah:

from last night , I am not able to boot my system. I was watching some movies and the pc suddenly restarted automatically and stuck in the black screen- no screen,no mouse cursor nothing.then I power offed and restart the pc again - it shows some blue screen ( not the memory dump message -but something different) and again restarted and in the loop.I tried to bootup in safe mod but stucked in middle.after that I tried couple times to restart the pc and in maximum i reach the windows login screen but after that again restarting. Lastly it is not even booting up- giving two long beeps followed up continuous short beeps.

(these problems started from the last couple of days when I unplugged my cpu to install my new wd640aaks-pc keeps rebooting sometimes and the whoozing sound of the fan during the startup)

my suspect:

1. loose connection during the unplug
2. ram problem - long beep
3. inadequote power supply due to addition of a new hard drive( I have a 400watt zebronic economy series (20+4) )
4. cpu heating due to fan malfunctioning for dust or something stuck in between the fans..
.....

Guys please suggest.

r u sure u didnt remove the HSF?wats the make of ur bios??try cleeaning ur gpu hsf!!
"(these problems started from the last couple of days when I unplugged my cpu to install my new wd640aaks-pc keeps rebooting sometimes and the whoozing sound of the fan during the startup)" try starting w/o the wd,,if the prob getting solved it might be ur psu

I dont think its the psu, something has been moved while installing the new HDD. My guess is something is loose or there is some wire which is sticking to the cpu or psu or some other fan causing overheating. Go into your bios and check under HW monitor to check system temps and report back. Cheers. Looks like the cpu is getting overheated. This is what happens sometimes while OC'ing.

I tried w/o the wd- problem still persists. I have not removed the hsf of my cpu or gpu. i see lots of dust in between the heatsink- just below the the fan of the cpu.

if u have time then remove the cpu hsf clean it apply new layer of thermal paste(remove the dust accumulated before applying the paste),,i also think its overheating,,pls post a pic of ur cabby's interioir

A HDD won't matter much to the load levels of the PSU. Most probably its the heat of the proccy.
Check the temps and make sure u clean the dirt once in a while...:P

i never removed/installed the hsf to clean it so far - so no experienced on it. bit scared to do it on my own.although i have done complete pc installation long long time back during p 3/4 era

Troubleshoot step by step. It will save you your sanity trust me.

1) Check RAM and slots (most common issue)

--Try Booting

2) Unplug all HDD's/ODD's/FDD's

--Try Booting

3) Remove all Expansion cards. (If you have onboard VGA use that)

--Try Booting, the MB should beep if No VGA is present.

4) Remove RAM

--Try Booting, the MB should beep if No RAM is present

If even after this the damn thing wont beep or boot, then remove everything and assemble it back component by component

MB & power

--Try Booting. It should beep due to lack of CPU

Add CPU

--Try Booting and so on add one component and check each time
