Yep. I picked up a M1015, crossflashed to HBA mode for the same. Have a total of 8+4 = 12 SATA ports myself now as well.

Actually, with the high speed lines coming in, plus Amazon Prime and Netflix (planning), I dont see any need to keep pirated stuff.

As of now, have some 20 TB+ of HDDs, not even used half the space.

C700 Compaq with 2/3GB DDR2 with Celeron 530. Laptop is in 2 pieces with display separate.

Did you go Hulk on this poor lappy??:mad:

Lol no. The plastic where the hinges attach came off, so I used Araldite, and then a few months later the base cracked :P.

I could not find the replacement. It's just kept packed up.

Ok so after sending out a declaration that I will be paying for any penalties incurred by UPS for not supplying Form 50 the Asrock mobo is now out for delivery and I will be getting my hands on it on Monday.

Now I have a iBall Baby 342 case which has 2 3.5" HDD bays which are occupied by 2 WD Red 4 TB NAS drives and an empty 5.25" bay.

Initially I had planned on getting a new WD Red and putting it in the 5.25" bay with a 5.25 to 3.5 HDD adapter I have lying around. But I am planning to get a cheap SSD (120 GB) for OS drive and thinking of getting a combo 5.25 bay(with 3.5 and 2.5 bays and 2 USB3.0 ports) like this one-

Will this cause overheating issues with the HDD keeping in mind hotswap is not a requirement for me?
What do you guys think?

If this doesn't pan out I will just keep the SSD loose in the case bottom .Right now I am copying my stuff to other portable drives in preparation for creating a single spanned drive.

slightly off topic, but i am looking for Long sata cables, 60cm and up, any advice on this matter guys, I heard they can be up to a meter long but cant find any

Can you post pics of the internals? See the airflow. I had a case from @rahuljawale where upto 2 HDDs was fine - 3rd HDD next to the PSU obstructed the airflow and caused heating.

Will do that on Monday once I get the board and take apart the cabinet.Held off on purchasing the new hard drives today before getting the mobo on hand.If it turns out to be DOA then the hard drives will be useless in the short term.

Quite a few people had RAM compatibility issues with this mobo. But it is the only J4205 board available with major retailers.

Was planning to buy 2 4 TB WD Red NAS drives and then I came upon this information-

The WD My Book 8 TB used to have 7200 rpm HGST Enterprise He8 drives inside them which are utterly kickass Helium filled enterprise class drives.

But they have reduced the price and put in WD80EZZX drives which are essentially WD Red 5400 rpm drives without TLER.Since I do not have a RAID setup the absence of TLER is not an issue but rather a blessing for me in standalone drive operation mode.

PFA threads below-

As I have to open up the My Book and void the warranty altogether I thought why not buy it from Amazon US and save even more.

Total is coming out to be Rs. 16,151 which when considering that 4 TB WD Reds go for 13k locally approx. is a damn steal.

What do you guys think?
@sbm if I buy the above drive from Amazon Global will I run into Form 50 issues again?Appreciate your thoughts on this.

EDIT: Coming out to be USD 260 approx. with Expedited Shipping or 18k with Amazon INR Payment option.

Since Amazon has 70 INR to 1 USD rate I am thinking of going with USD payment option.Hopefully CitiBank will have a better exchange rate.

The only thing I got from the overclockers site is that it may or may not be a Red and its a game of chance. Plus you need to ensure you remove the drive properly else no warranty.

Warranty is anyways gone as some other people had mentioned that although WD site shows warranty on the bare drive it won't be applicable as the enclosure has been tampered with.

On the other hand I was unable to find any one over reddit or other forums who got any other drive in their units.

WD Red 8 TB locally is around 29k(deltapage and MDComputers) so I am leaning towards the Amazon US option.

The major worry for me is the courier handling of the hard drive over such a long distance.

On another note I found this on the WD Site

Only 8 TB options are Purple or Red.I am wary of Green or Blue but I am okay with the Purple ones which are not that good for data reads though.
