Laptops Lowest possible price on less than 14" ?

Suggest a few laptops in lowest possible price range. The only requirement is that it should be less than 14" screen. Its not even equal to but less than.

And lowest possible with core duo as well.
 
A HCL 12.1" Centrino retails around 45k i think. though, i am not sure if thats the lowest u wud get..

NOw how about this too..
And now a question for myself.. I have Acer 4061 which has 4 cell battery. :@ What would be the approx price of a 8-9 cell battery for the same.
 
not many models with Core Duo in the less than 14" segment as of now..Hell, there are not too any sub 14" in the Indian market anyway...

AFAIK there's Dell M1210 (12.1" starting at ~60K) Fujitsu S6300 series (13.3" ...not sure of the price) and the Sony SZ series (13.3" Horribly overpriced in India @ ~ 100K)

Yeah which is why I thot lets stop looking myself.

And that Dell M1210 is droolmaal. After little customization it came upto 70K and is worth it. Am awestruck since morning.
 
Well it isnt for me.. for a friend.

But for me too both weight and battery backup is a concern. The damn 4cell battey gives me 1-1.5 hours of backup. My single class is that long and I have to carry the 3KG laptop and the charger with me.
 
Why u going for a smaller screen? is weight a concern, or is it coz of battery back-up?

I have rediscovered my love for gaming, thanks to a small screened light machine :P

A small machine with a nice crisp screen is (at least per me) superior to a big & heavy laptop in nearly every respect...

And as Ren' has pointed out, perhaps all the more important for students who carry it in and out of classrooms everyday and may not have access to AC outlests everywhere....
 
^^ hehe.. glad to hear that. but my question was primarily to clear (if there was any doubt) that 12" screens dont give u much more power back-up than their bigger screen siblings. But they do weigh a lot less and are not so much a pain to carry around. :")
 
12" screens use a little less power, but the difference gets offset by the slightly smaller batteries they use....

to put some number here, a typical 14"er (Merom/Yonah/Dothan) consumes around 18-20W under normal usage (e.g browsing with wi-fi on and medium brightness) vis-a-vis a 12"er which consumes 14-16 W under similar conditions....

but usually, the default battery on a 14" would be a ~60whr vs a ~55whr cell on a 12"

And yes, they weigh a lot less, and are much smaller in size (a4 sheet size usually) so if you do pick up a 12"er , pick up a good neoprene sleeve for 1K or so, and you can simply slide it in your backpack/handbag ...

Thus compared to a 15" or even a 14"er, they are incredibly more mobile

Core Duo 1.6/14.1" Widescreen starts at 33.5k!!!!! :O

Is there any quick n easy way to find out? no way in a thousand years wud i find out if i were to ask thru the proper channel.. :rofl:
 
^^oh yes...

the motherboard vendor id is usually the oem manufacturer too (most oem suppliers use their own mobos given the lack of astandard form factor)

just install everest which will show you the board id/manufacturer/revision....most compaqs show compal, most dells show Dell ( they manufacture most of their machines) , my m1210 shows Asus :huh:
