Hey Guys Requires your Suggestion for Low Power Rig

Purpose is to build low power consumption rig(without display)
Requirements are
1. Low Power Consumption (<20W)
2. Small Size Factor (Less than 250x200 cm as slim / less space as possible)
3. Remote Logon possible
4. Serves as media server , print server , file server
5. Downloading rig for torrents
6. Budget 5k-10K as less as possible

My options
1. Sheeva Plug / similar plug computer +USB HDD drive
Marvell: SheevaPlug Development Kit

2. D945GCLF-ATOM + 1gb RAM + MOREX T3300 cabinet +250GB 2.5 SATA HDD

3. Fit-PC2

go with the second one, i think it should be enough for your needs....
 
The Atom idea would be more flexible and probably cheaper compared to the Fit PC but I for some reason like the design.
 
Sempron LE 140 too is really low power consuming proccy, and offer much better performance.

its 45nm CPU, 2.8Ghz with 1MB L2 cache, shud be lot better than atom in performance.

costs 1.7k.

mobo: Asus m2n68: 2.5k [IGP nvidia 7025]

or biostar 740g: 2.4k [better IGP ie HD 2400]

Definitely seems to be a good setup. But is its consumption comparable to atom setup?

What is the power consumption of the atom setup when used as a download rig, not in idle but in activity mode ?

My current setup consumes 35~45 W while downloading.
 
Have a look at the QNAP TS-119 NAS:

They claim an amazing consumption of 13W during normal operation, and 5W at standby.

Just pop in a Hard Disk and you are ready to go.

It seems to be closed Linux system providing a Web based UI. But as a low power download rig, it seems unbeatable.

The +ve's

  • Very quick install. No need to hunt for cabinet, SMPS, etc.
  • Amazing claim on power consumption
  • Pretty Compact Dimensions
  • Supports downloads via HTTP, FTP & Bittorrent

And to balance, the -ve's:

  • I dont think they offer any support in India
  • It is designed to run headless, being administered over the LAN. So you cannot attach a monitor & keyboard to this rig.
  • Not exactly cheap
  • Fanless, so it becomes hot quickly
