I have been reading on m4a vs mp3 and found out that m4a is superior and takes lower space than mp3.

So , can i convert my music library to M4A ?

are the ID3 Tags compatible with M4A?

Anything more i have to know?

1) Why not ? My observation, 64kbps m4a = 128kbps mp3.

2) Yes, but with only ID3 v1 I guess, not with ID3 v2; but that doesn't matters.

3) Start the conversion ;)

for conversion try converting it from a cd source.avoid conversion from mp3 to m4a since that would downgrade the quality.

@challapradyumna

Also keep in mind what @Superbad said. I forgot to say that. Its because of the conversion nature of m4a format. They are not exactly lossy formats but not also pure loseless formats but they don't cut on ultra high & low frequencies which mp3 does. So, the quality drop is negligible.

at the risk of going offtrack, have you tried encoding a cd in ogg vorbis format? i feel its much better than mp3 for the bass and mid audio range.

All apple itunes content is in m4a format and 256 kbps and to me it is if not on par with flac and is far better than mp3 320 kbps

You can get m4a content on...

Conversion of mp3 to m4a is not recommended if you are looking for quality :)

Recently both my 4GB cards bought from snapdeal stopped working so started searching for space saving . So does it get less space??

Downloading is not possible that too FLAC....

The superiority of AAC over MP3 is clear at lower bitrates(<128 kbps). But move to decent bitrates for audio (>256 kbps), and the superiority isn't so clear anymore.

My take: At higher bitrates, its better to go for the format which has the most compatibility across devices. MP3 is a clear winner in that respect.

However, in terms of whether AAC is better than MP3, the advantages of AAC are not entirely decisive, and the MP3 specification, although antiquated, has proven surprisingly robust in spite of considerable flaws. AAC and HE-AAC are better than MP3 at low bit rates (typically less than 128 kilobits per second)

.ogg is an obsolete format, no longer maintained. If going on that track OP might as well convert his music library into FLAC. The major disadvantage of the latter is that files tend to burgeon with the increase in quality. Also most standard sources such as, iPods, iPhones, your generic MP3 and MP4 players and newer breed of phones [Nokia Lumia and Androids] do not support FLAC OR .ogg.

Deplorable set of conditions.
