I don't think it is an issue for most people who are buying a thin and light laptop. He is probably doing CPU heavy tasks such as video rendering or running complex code for a long time. I can guarantee that it is the fastest laptop that most people have ever used by a mile. Nothing in the Windows or linux space comes close to these M* macbooks. If one's requirements can be met by running MacOS, then one shouldn't even look at any other laptop.
Look at my M1 Macbook pro's battery use in the last 10 days. It is mostly web browsing on Firefox, but still nothing in the Windows space comes close. There is no fan noise. No heat. No nothing.

The new snapdragon elite/plus, AMD 300 and even intel 200 CPU's will disagree with this statement. They are not without their issues like slightly increased power consumption on intel/AMD or app compatibility with snapdragon But They also have more options like Oled Screens, DGPU, upgradable storage and RAM so it's not as easy as you would think to choose if OS is not a constraint.
With the success of M series the competition has understood the importance of power efficiency and will catch up soon.
The increased heating on:
Air's is unfortunate and holds it back and there is no easy solution but, Ive seen some effective DIY mods involving thermal pads and some thermoelectric phone coolers.
Pro's is because of its fan curve. apple just lets the CPU throttle rather than boost fan speed(in most cases), this can be solved with 3rd party tools to optimize the curves if you need. On my MacBook Pro m3pro the fan doesn't even turn one until it crosses 90C.

Some newer window laptops do come close and even beat it. They are new so they obviously cost more than older M series Macs but on the flip side they also tend to get cheaper much faster.
