Laptops Macbook Or HP pavilion or Dell Xps? ? ? Suggest pls

Legally no, you cant install OS X on any non Macintosh hardware, but when has legality mattered on the web:ohyeah: ?

Keep in mind that you need a legal copy of windows if you are planning on using bootcamp in Mac.So if you dont have a copy around add that cost as well..
IMO, using a mac only for the hardware is quite pointless, if you wont be using OS X much, why buy it?

+1 for Dell XPS, good hardware, configurable, decent support.
HP isnt too bad either, just no option for changing the configuration by even a bit.

What about those 65k + ones.. Which one is that? Just macbook?

Yes, why don't you look up the Apple India website. That'll help you get to know models/pricing better.

Btw, i don't think Video editing is a issue on the Macbook, the 9400M takes care of that pretty well.

What software do you use for your works..? Are they available for Mac? If yes, then go for the Mac. If no, better settle for a customized Dell Studio or the likes.

I use solid works for cadd , i've the windows edition of it, can't i install vista/xp in mac and use it ?

yes you can. BUt would you be willing to spend that much for the 'mac' factor? Cos the fact remains, the same amount spent on Dell/HP would give you a much more powerful/better specced system easily.

+ Would you b comfortable doing this work on a 13" mac? A 15" might be a better idea. Keep that in mind too.

IMO, much as I like the design of the mac, a similarly priced HP/Dell will be better/more powerful for your needs :) For a home user, mac is good to make a statement. For a power user, either get the 1L+ pro or look elsewhere :)

Frankly, that's almost a myth within the Indian pricing context

An comparably specced XPS 1330 (LED screen /8400 (against 9400) GPU albeit 3GB vs 2GB of RAM on MB) costs 75ish

Also, the Mac has a far superior build

errr...we arent talking website pricing scz :) Xps after talking to dell reps should be cheaper :)

yea, but a comparably specced XPS would still set you back by very close to what the MB costs

And to keep things fair, let's not compare Inspirons or Travelmates with the MBs

Edit: Here is a rough pointer to the street prices of several lappies, knock off perhaps 5% off the listed prices here

None

HP or XPS whatever you like..... XPS looks uber and Dell ASS is good.

I have friends who have Mac lappies, used as decoration, control are just the opposite, u close a window by clicking on the left rofl.. .... no time in professional life to install windows OS blah blah....

buy what runs without problems 24 x7 365 days..... :P

How difficult is it, exactly to click on the left instead of right?

And what do you mean by 'Decoration'?

Hey Super, no offences to you man, you love Apple we all know but someone who wants to buy a new lappy and HAS NOT apple before might find it weird at time getting uesed to Mac etc.... :)

Same as above dude, you guys love apple are must be pretty used to it...

Some friends of mine have Mac book etc, they hardly use it, just show off lol.. they call me and ask if their windows PC has problem lol :( and if their mac cant do something they want... i also dont know anything about mac.

Applie mac etc are exotic, not everyone can afford.. moreover not everyone can use it in day to day regular bases.... this is by far what i've seen and heard.... :)

Thing is mate, these fellas would do the same if they were using a Windows PC too, i.e. they'd be equally clueless

Don't get me wrong, I love Windows too..

damn, I love any device which has a OS on it

Just that it gets my goat when people diss OS X (or anything Apple) without even having tried it, or having fooled around with it for 15 mins just coz it's eminently fashionable to do so.

Applie mac etc are exotic, not everyone can afford.. moreover not everyone can use it in day to day regular bases...

Unfortunately, Apple does not really have a real entry-level model...the base Macbook at 50Kish is the cheapest lappy available from the Apple stable...

Having said that, it does not really mean apple systems are comparatively way overpriced.. The sad part is (and to reiterate) they don't have a model that would compete with an entry level Inspiron or Travelmate

As for using an Apple system on an everyday basis, you may want to look at this way...I'll assume a Windows system was the first computer you played around with

It may have taken you a day or two to familiarize with the basics, another week or so to get a good hang of things, and then sustained usage over several years to become a power user

So getting used to a different operating system will obviously have a learning curve

It took me (or anyone else for that matter) a while to adjust, a while to unlearn some of my old windows habits but all-in-all, the shift was worth it at least for me

^ I just handled Mac book pro something for 3 mins max.... i am used to windows, dont know abput OP. I agree with you... even if OP buys mac he will have a hard time finding programs to run on it etc...... what if he uses it for work? Windows is more "standard".. hey cant he buy apple and install windows??
:juggle: :thanks!:
