News MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16 with new processors released

MacBook-Pro-Notch-Feature.jpg
Apple is calling the event 'Unleashed' and its expected that they would be demonstrating the true power of their new silicon which they introduced in the lower end MacBooks. Calling them lower end would not be accurate given how they outperformed the beefier Intel processors. So much so that Intel went scrambling in desperation to release a series of ads showing how non-apple laptops are better, not once comparing the actual performance of Intel vs Apple silicon.

The MacBook Pro laptops are also supposed to redesigned around the new processors which are extremely energy efficient thus leading to a more compact design. The screen bezels are supposed to even thinner than they are in the 16" MacBook Pro and introduce a new MacBook screen size of 14" instead of the regular 13" size. The displays are expected to be mini LED with higher resolutions.

The base models on the new processor, to be called M1X or M2, are supposed to start with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. The processors themselves will get a bump up from 4 performance cores to 10 performance cores and 16 graphic cores from the 8 graphic cores. The cores are expected to run at a higher frequency. No wonder the event is being called Unleashed and Intel is scared out of their wits.

There are also rumours that the Touch Bar will go away in favor of regular function keys and we will have more variety of ports than just USBC ports currently available. A return to MagSafe charging is also expected.

All this however will likely cost 1,74,000 for the starting model here in India and would price it way out of reach for most of us.

Personally I would prefer that they introduce the redesigned chassis in the current base MacBook Pro model and take it from 13" to 14" with the current M1 processor in the market. I would happily take that model with a 16GB RAM option to replace my ageing MacBook 12. Had been saving every month for past 2 years for this day.

Close apps you dont need. You have an 8gb ram device. Its slow cause its paging ram to disk.
That's a fairly low degree of swap usagr and would not.explain the kind of lag he is experiencing..

Switching between browser tabs for example should be almost instantaneous even at much higher levels of swap given the low amount of data vs high ssd speeds.

Something else if off in his cSe

now whats cSe??

also my network adapter stucks randomly these days have to always force quit that.

shifting to safari now .
Typo for case :tearsofjoy:

Your screenshots appear fine with nothing unusual..
Other than way too many threads spawned by chrome and firefox.

I think two things should solve the issue for you:

1) Keep the activIty monitor open for next few days with all the tabs sorted from high to low. Next time you experience lag/slowdown, check the tab graphs and try identify what threads are causing a IO/Cpu spike

2) switch to safari as primary and also install edge as an alternate browser.
Chrome has become cancerous of late on mac os in particular but isn't much better on windows either... and firefox isn't too far behind.

At a minimum, you will see a major improvement in battery life with safari

They only have M2 Airs and that doesnt have a 16gb sku for offline stores. And for Macbook pros they only have m3 at mrp + minor disc.
This has been a major headache even in Bangalore. Most retailers keep base config. I kept calling them once in a while to check if they had stock. Got lucky one day. Got 12 core M2 pro MBP with 16gb/1TB for 2.1L. The only other good option is to get from states.

16inch? How much is it in the states

How about buying the Macbook Pro from Dubai ? They do have good difference in the prices of iphones, but I am not sure about the price differences in the Macbook category. Someone else here might be having proper information in this regards.

Also, there is a huge market of second hand Macbooks in Dubai, if someone is still willing to settle with M1 and M2 chip based models.

Man I'm still stuck deciding. I really want an M3 MAX Macbook 16inch or an M2 MAX atleast. But the prices are insane even with education sale. Had read its cheaper outside India but can't find anyone selling imported macbooks.

It's 20k-ish cheaper and in my opinion, not worth exploiting. for iPhone, sure but iPads and Macs don't have a lot of difference in pricing. the prices you see in the US store are before taxes, in India and EU, it's after taxes.

I bit the bullet last year and got the m2 max 16 inch from vijaysales for 322500 + 5k cashback on top, no cost emi over 12 months.

What do you plan to use it for?
Unless it’s a specialized use case, you may be better served by a M3 pro than a M2 max.

Also be careful about selecting the 16. I have both 16 and 14 and the 16 is extremely bulky for everyday usage

I have the opposite opinion, haha. I've seen a few colleagues prefer the 14 inch but i am extremely glad that i got the 16 inch, i love the added screen real estate everytime I've to work away from home.

Correcting myself here, it might be worth the effort to get one from the US right now, especially from the education store: https://www.macrumors.com/2024/07/16/apple-2024-sales-tax-free-holidays/

I get what you are saying - at my desk , I use the 16 in conjuction with a docked 32 monitor.
But i find it quite cumbersome to walk away with .

While travelling, the workaround for real estate I use is a portable 13.3 OLED monitor.
A single type C cable from the 14" to the monitor gives me a large enough workspace ..
And the 14 + the monitor are still volumetrically a lot smaller than travelling with the 16"

M1 Max is insanely powerful and is overkill for many. If your workload relies on GPU power that can fully utilize 32 GPU cores, M1 Max is the obvious answer. But the downside is that this platform is 3 years or so old and will only get another 3-4 year updates. M3 Pro also has better cpu performance and has support for ray tracing in gaming.
