Mandriva 2008 install issues

I m new to Linux. I tried installing Mandirva 2008 in my compaq core duo laptop with 1 GB RAM . I am able boot from the Bootable mandirva CD but while installing it shows "Fatal error"
can anybody help me out?

your CD disk is faulty.Try burning new CD at lowest possible speed of writer like 4x-12x.Check the burned disk for errors before installing OS.Do md5sums checks to ISO image if you have .

Procedure for MD5SUM check for downloaded ISO file.

Dowload the MD5SUM.EXE program from: http://www.etree.org/cgi-bin/counter.cgi/software/md5sum.exe. After completing the download, run the command: md5sum /path_to_file/xxxxxxx.iso .Verify the returned md5sum code with the provided one from website(At same server from your downloaded mandriva)If they are not same the download ISO image again.

I tried the same CDs on a different PC & I am able to install it.
I dont think there is any problem with my Laptop Combo drive as I can open the CDs in Windows.

Which version Mandriva 2008. 1 or 2008.0 ? ALso you are using One Edition or Free Ed

facing the same issue here.. trying to run the mandriva 2008 from the rewritten DVD.. not getting any errors but when it tries to boot itself.. my laptop makes an unbearable sound ! .. i had to hard reboot the system .. afraid of tryng it once again now :|

Do not use the Live CD then.. Install it from VMWare
