Marvell Problem

ok guys i am pissed off now i reflashed the bios cleared the cmos rtc installed win 2003 marel aint working installed xop marvel aint working wtf!!!!!!!!!!!!! is it possible the chip is a faulty one? :( :( it is installing the devce but saying device could not be started error code 10 also tht registry thing i cant enable it it dechecks itself .

Ok, lets start from beginning, so you have flashed your bios with latest f/w, rebooted, loaded opimitised defaults, saved and rebooted.(you should not get checksum errors after this step)

Then you went about installing xp, installed latest nforce drivers, rebooted, but the marvel does not get installed.

did you go thru' the m/c manual or cd, are their any special ways to install the marvel driver or any special setting in the bios which is required.

My suggestion, just a try :

Uninstall the (marvel+normal lan) from your DM(device manager), reboot, get into your bios, disable (marvel+normal) lan, reboot, get into DM do you still see the marvel or normal lan, if yes stop and post back,

If not, then uninstall the nforce drivers, reboot.

Reinstall the nforce drivers but this time dont install the nvidia firewall during setup options, just the ide, sm and ethernet drivers. Now reboot, get into bios and enable just the marvel lan, see if the marvel works. else -

Reinstall the nforce drivers but this time dont install the nvidia firewall and ethernet driver during setup options, just install the ide and sm drivers. Now reboot, get into bios and enable just the marvel lan, and let windows install the driver for marvel lan, see if the marvel works.

Remember, we are disabling the other normal lan to check if it conflicts with marvel in anyway. also as i said before, do go thru' the manual or asus setup cd, maybe we are missing something.

Also, you can pm TE members having the same board to know if they have same issues.

ok this is g****ing weird.
i disabled marvel and both nf lan from bios came back didnt saw em in DM.
now i uninstalled nvidia nforce everything except the display driver.
rebooted and installed the smbus.
again rebooted windows automatically inxstalled the pci pci bridges etc etc and ht bridge.
now rebooted and enabled the marvel and clicked yes and saved it while the machine rebooted after clicking yes "THE MACHINE WONT BOOT AT ALL IT WONT LET ME EVEN ENTER THE BIOS IT SHOWED ME THE ASUS A8N SLI PREMIUM LOGO AND IT HUNG UP LIKE THT I TRIED REBOOTING 4 TIMES NO USE. cleared the rtc cmos and rebooted it worked got into bios did optimal rebooted then disbaled nvlan and enabled marvel and rebooted it worked now finall i am in windows in windows it installed the drivers the ide drivers automatically "windows default ide drivers and the marvel too but hey no use still it is showing tht yelloow sign in DM " its not working.

^ ok, now you install the nforce drivers ide, sm and ethernet and reboot, i am assumig that the other lan is disabled. forget the firewall.

PS : got to go, just post back, as i said before go thru' asus manual very important, if marvel is still not getting enabled then time to take it back to dealer, h/w problem :( lets see.

something i saw while booting up the network controller waqs on irq 11 and the ide channel 1 was also on 11 so i disabled ide challel 1 thot it wud work bam!! it didnt work still

ok here is a source how to implement this effectively i did this but its not even installing saying" windows cant find a better match for the driver or whatever bls bla"
Hi, guys, may be this could help some of you

The PCI Ids in the .INF file for MARVEL drivers DOES NOT MATCH the one the MARVELL 88E8001 chip returns, this prevent the driver to install.

To get the network on download the last driver for XP/2003 from the Marvell web site, unzip the file and update the .INF file with the correct PCI id

The one in the original .INF file is VEN_11AB&DEV_

replace all the occurences of VEN_11AB with VEN_1148 (the ID the 88E8001 returns) using the notepad.

Then use the manual installation process and wonder all is right now.

I do not understand why this PCI id is wrong maybe MARVELL change its vendor ID due to some conflicts or legal issue.

Hope this could help anybody.

I just obtained an A7N8X-E Deluxe MOBO to replace a A7N8X Deluxe which had gone bad. I am using Win XP Pro and had both LAN ports on the A7N8X enabled and working.
Since installing the new A7N8X-E Deluxe, I, like many others here cannot get the Marvell LAN port to work. When I went to install the drivers from the CD, the choice to install the Marvell LAN did not even show up.
When I rebooted, I got the Add New Hardware wizard popping up and asking to install drivers for an Ethernet controller. I downloaded the drivers from ASUS and installed them as instructed. No luck. I emailed tech support at ASUS and they said to make sure the jumper block was enabled. :knock: NO ROCKET SCIENTIST THERE!! :knock: I did check the jumper block again, rebooted but no luck.
Has anybody come up with a logical solution to the problem yet?

I also have this problem.
win2000pro, a7n8x-e deluxe
ethernet controller is there in the system management, but in no way am I able to make windows recognize any driver for it.
I thought it was a 3Com 3C920B-EMB and installed a matching driver forcing windows to do it. Obviously there's a malfunctioning icon and report about it.
Now I read here that the integrated lan is changed in the latest board version.
I'll search for a Marvell 88E8001 Gigabit Lan PCI Controller driver and see.
Am I right?

Thanks for the post JoVankaam, I tried this and now my Marvell Gigabit LAN port is working.

Where did you find this information? I have not been able to track anything like this down anywhere I have searched.

Thanks again.

As you have d/l the latest marvel driver and tried what the guy's wrote, i can only assume that either your marvel lan is shorted or something wrong with mobo, so my advise would be take back to dealer asap.

What about PM'ing other members with same board any progress and and did you finish going thru' the manual.

Keep looking for solution on net if you want, maybe you would find one.

any way 2 check what value the chip is returning or any way 2 check even if the chip is shot or not form linux?
yea dippu rahul is yet 2 tell me what happens in his mobo waitin for him 2 come online in yahoo.

this is lame lame and lame

i havent enabled 1394 before now i did tht and same problem as marvel device could not be started also thers a new unknown device :|

Now this 1394 can be a driver issue, anyways, i think it's time you take your board to dealer, before you end up making it worse.

It's a brand new board right ?

yeah it is brand new i mailsed asus manager it is forwarded to technical department even i mailed to rashi got reply from their rma department asking me the serial number. i told them i want a replacement lets hope for the best. i also told them if they can 2 give me a8n 32 sli premium .. dippy does it has more issues? and i'll adjust the balance lets see anyways dippy i wanna know how much chances r there of rmaing stuffs ? like these?
its only a 15 days or 20 old board and i am using it for 7 days.

x86, about rma chic magnet seems to have some trouble check this thread out, http://www.techenclave.com/forums/sigh-no-asus-66910.html.

Anyways, as yours is new board i dont think their would be any problem, even if they dont exchange, just solving the problem would suffice. Imho, i dont think it is because of way you install and no installation should be this difficult. So, wait fot asus reply and keep pestering them, call them if you can. Just dont give up.

About problems with asus boards it differs form buyer to buyer and model to model some people swear by asus, maybe it is just marvel problem - the link you provided suggested loads of folks having same problem, so who knows.

I dont want to judge asus harshly as i dont own this board, did you get a reply from rahul, there may be many others on TE having the same board, try contacting them.
