For any resolution minimum fps for smooth gameplay should always be above 30FPS. Best results @ 45-50 FPS for first person shoooters, for stealth games like Splinter cell 30-35Fps is alright. And the 6600GT will provide you with more than enough fps with the current generation of games.

30 FPS feels very choppy in FPS like UT2k4 when you are playing online with pings in excess of 50ms. 50 FPS is the bare minimum...

You cannot play at that settings on a 6600 GT, you will require atleast an SLIed 6800 GT. For games such as Farcry, Chaos theory infact Chaos theory will struggle with all SM 3.0 features enabled. If you ever wanted to play Everquest 2, you will need to play at 800*600 resolutions on the 6600 GT...

My personal experience is if a game is too good you wont notice jaggies, infact I would prefer playing at 128o*1024 no AA and AF to 1024*768 4x AA and 8x AF..

@ Aces - bro i will not be playing at such insane settings.
I am happy with max resolution of 1024x768 4X AA & 8X AF.

Will i get close to 40FPS for NFSUG2 , Farcry , Doom3 , HL2 , Splinter Cell etc.....

Yes in FC and HL2. Just about in D3. Absolutely not in UG2 and SC:CT. Having played UG2 and SC:CT on both a 9800 (home comp) and 6600GT(work comp). Overall in those games, the 9800 seemed smoother. It definitely had higher IQ in UG2 as well. If you want AA in chaos theory, u'd have to get a 6800GT atleast to maintain 40fps or so.

What about playing the game at 2X AA & 4XAF at 1024x768 - 6600GT
Will now atleast i will be able to play at 40 Fps.

What sort of difference will it make at 2X AA & 4XAF , will the differences be noticable.

It is noticeable but i don't think u'll get good enuf fps in chaos theory. At 1024 with no AA and AF it was averaging around 35-40fps.

Will 2X AA & 4XAF at 1024x768 provide me close to 40fps.
Will OCing the GPU help me increase the perf.
I am planning to to get a Gainward based 6600GT , which has some OCing potential.

OR Will a 6800 Plain be a better deal at 2X AA & 4XAF at 1024x768
But it costs like some above 15K [correct me if i am wrong]

I don't think the 6800 vanilla PCI-E would be a better deal since it uses 600MHz RAM and is actually slower than a 6600GT. Overclocking might help but not by much. If you wanna know whats playable at what res, I suggest you head over to hardocp and check their 6600GT review.
