Guys I want to know what is the maximum speed offered by 2G. I have searched, but couldn't find exact info.

Need to know max speed by GPRS and EDGE.

In this site - What is GPRS (General Packet Radio Service)?

I have found, max EDGE is 384kbps, then we are not getting such speeds in India ? Network providers won't support ?

max EDGE Class 12 is 236 kbps I think and thats what is supported by most operators. I get around 20-25 KB/s avg (peaks of 30 KB/s ) in Vodafone Mobile Connect

Nokia phones supports edge speeds of ~293kbps. Got consistent max speeds of 40+KB/sec on reliance gsm. So network availability and signal strength may be an issue to have those speeds.

Those are good speeds considering the fact that I get 15Kb max in Airtel in night . During Day time its even less.

384 kbps is wcdma that is one step below the Hsdpa.

edge is max 293 and that also in optimised conditions.

guys it's 384kbps, not 384KBps !

384kbps = 384*8 = 3.072 MBps right ? [or my math is wrong :ashamed:]

^ LOL 384kbps/8= 48KBps

1 Byte(B) is greater than 1 bit(b). 1 Byte = 8 bits,

8 bits = 1 byte

1000 bytes = 8 kilobits (kb) = 1 Kilobyte (KB)

1000 Kilobytes (KB) = 8 megabits (mb) = 1 Megabyte (MB
)

For getting 3.072mbps of speed u need to have a download speed of 384KBps = (384*8) = 3072kbps = (3072/1000) = 3.072 mbps.

3.072 MBps = 24.576 mbps

Hope u got it. :)

thanks, I got it. I am always confused about B and b !

So we are getting 20Kbps, but at max it supports 48kbps.
